Gay guys should NOT shower with straight guys...Nothing against gay men. I have tons of gay friends but I've seen gay guys walking around the locker room with erections and talking about other naked guys in the showers....

ummmmmmm, no you haven't.

i'm pretty sure that i've NEVER seen that happen in the locker room. as everyone who has done drum corps, or has been in any kind of community shower knows, nudity looses ALL novelty.......even for gay men. in drum corps especially, most of the time, you have very limited time to shower. get in, shower, get out. if you are so ignorant that you assume that gay people check out the other guys in the locker room and are always thinking of sex...then i guess go ahead and think that. also, i'm not sure if you've actually looked around your drum corps, but a lot of guys aint that cute....just sayin.

also, i'm pretty sure that segregation ended in the 1960's. so not allowing gays to shower with straight guys.....you might wanna rethink that one there dude. just sayin.

"We're here, we're queer, get use to it, don't ______ with us!" empire records

This thread has been very interesting and quite amusing to read. Now its time for me to add my own two scents in.

It never seizes to amaze me how much society gets worked up over sexuality. Considering the most homophobic men are the ones who are actually most insecure about there sexuality. The rant about how gay men shouldn't shower with straight men sure gave me a laugh. Your ignorance is the reason why this post exists. As I recall, it were the "straight" dudes who were always sporting a wood in the shower. To those who had it thanks for showing off but too the many of you who didn’t get over yourself!

I only assume SLOWsoprano that you are a very insecure person. Why should I have to deny my sexuality or hide who I am for you? Personally it’s your Heterosexuality that disgusts me. You are always flaunting it every where you go, talking about how you do this chick, or how big that chicks boobs are, or how you want to do her... Why should I have to look at you all summer long in the back of the bus making out with some chick on the verge of a mild porn scene? Then you feel you’re so righteous to segregate because you’re insecure some guy might look at you? If anything you should be flattered because when it comes to looks dude we hold high standards most you fall way short of!

Now moving forward, I have experienced negativity towards my sexuality. I am not going to say where and when but you can come to your own conclusions. One season that I marched I had to keep it on the down low. Everyone knew I was gay but wasn’t totally accepted due to maturity and age. At one show, I ran into a friend that hadn’t seen in a while and we hugged and gave each other a kiss. That night there were a few gay bashing jokes going around the bus. Also with in this organization an instructor said he was worried about my health due to my “choice” of sexuality and was concerned about my risk of catching HIV. Amongst other thing that summer, for the first time, since I have been out, I felt insecure about whom I was.

Other then that negative experience, I feel Drum Corp is a very open and friendly organization when it comes to ones choice of sexuality. I would have to say DCA is more accepting then DCI due to age and maturity.

On another note, if you were to banish all the homosexuals that ever existed in the history of society you might as well say goodbye to music (Samuel Barber, John Cage, Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein(bi),Tchaikovsky...) , art( Andy Warhol, Leonardo Da Vinci,..), poetry(John Ashbery, Walt Whitman, Algernon Swinburne, Emily Dickinson...) , dance/choreography (Stefan Sittig, Matthew Bourne, Jerome Robbins…), theatre/musicals ( Oscar Wilde, Edward Albee, …) "For gay believers, musicals are what football is to many straight men.", and fashion(Giorgio Armani, Michael Kors, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana...). You might think that’s a little facetious to the extreme but its true. I am not saying that heterosexual aren’t capable of such things or haven’t had an influence but when it comes to culture you have to say it belongs to US FOLKS! Just look around in today’s society. Who are the best dressed, have the nicest homes, higher incomes, and tend to be the more educated in society? Ok so I have an ego, but come on people why do have TV shows with 5 guys telling you straight dudes how to dress, how to clean, how to cook, decorate, and even how to hook a chick. I know some dude is going to be offended and say I'm full of it but its true I am!

And yes even in our Drum Corp world there are gay instructors, directors, designers, and composers. Some are out and proud others closeted. However, I hope of a day not just in Drum Corp but in society where culturally homosexuality is accepted. If everyone just accepted themselves for who they were and came out it wouldn’t be such an issue!
