Also, scores will be pushed higher due to the incredible competition and the fact that 4 of the top 5 shows won championships, and you can make a case that Star should have won as well. 1. 1993 Star of Indiana - in the winner's circle is Star with an incredible 98.95. Perhaps the score shouldn't be that high, but great competition has pushed them there, and I still believe that even today their 1993 show was too advanced, well performed, and exhibited some amazing musicianship and visual artistry that we rarely see. They win brass, percussion, tie in guard (with BD), and tie in GE Music with Cadets and GE Visual with Cavaliers and SCV. 2. 2000 Cadets - (98.8) Perhaps not the best of the Cadets shows, but we must remember just how good this corps was. Perhaps their one downfall is the overplaying at the end of the show, especially in the trumpets, but in terms of GE, Visual execution, Music GE, overall great brass, guard, and a ballsy percussion line, this show is still a stunner. 3. 2003 Blue Devils - (98.4) Devils beat the Cavaliers in this matchup. They probably do not beat the 2002 Cavaliers, but they were much cleaner and had better brass than the 2001 Cavaliers. They win on the meritt of brass, visual ensemble, guard, and by being close in the other areas. 4. 2001 Cavaliers - (98.2) A great show, no doubt, but honestly this show should NOT have won in 2001, and either Cadets 2001 or BD 2001 should have taken the title. This is not the cleanest Cavalier corps of thee 21st century, but it is still a great show. They tie for GE Visual (with Star and SCV), but that's it. 5. 1999 Santa Clara Vanguard - (98.1) They tie for GE Visual with Cavaliers and Star, and they are strong on all other captions, including a tie for 2nd in percussion with Cadets. Could beat the Cavaliers, so this one is very close. 6. 2005 Phantom Regiment - (97.4) This show did not win DCI but came close. It was a powerful show with stunning brass powerful emotions. 7. 1995 Madison Scouts - (96.8) A Great, Great, Great show!!!!!!! One of the most entertaining in the history of the activity. This show is legendary. It was a 4th place show, and Bluecoats 2006 was a 4th place show, so it is difficult for me to pick here. Bluecoats had better percussion, Madison in 95 may have edged us in brass by the tiniest of margins, the guard book is a toss up for me, and overall visual is close, but I think GE Music and Visual gives the edge to our friends up north. 8. 2006 Bluecoats - (96.4) As I said, very close with the Scouts, and for the Bluecoats to do this well against this lineup, which includes 4 champions of their respective years and one truly advanced corps from Bloomington, well, it shows you how much BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO has come into their own. They are from Canton, and they are big and bad, and BLUE!!! 9. 1984 Suncoast Sound - (91.5) This is one of those rare shows that people should go back and watch. It was not necessarily a trend-setter, but it set new standards for visual and guard, and the overall mood setting and what the show asked of the audience. We miss these guys. 10. 2005 Carolina Crown - (89.3) Great music, great visual writing, but lacking in big impact moments and the various types of GE that can be translated through music and visual. Against this field, a good show, but not top 7. 11. 1980 Spirit of Atlanta (89.1) This is a classic show. VERY LOUD HORN LINE!!! Big sound and good sound. The old recordings do not do it justice, but the visual would pale by today's standards and the drumline, while good, is not going to help with some of the top corps in this lineup. 12. 2004 Boston Crusaders (88.2) - I did not care for this show as much as 2000 or 2001. A good show, and I have been loving Boston's arrangements as of late, but they fall just short of Spirit. Brass: 1. Star of Indiana, 2. Blue Devils, 3. Cadets and Phantom, 5. SCV, 6. Cavaliers Perc : 1. Star of Indiana, 2. Cadets and SCV, 4. Cavaliers, 5. Blue Devils, 6. Phantom Vis GE: 1. Cavaliers and Star, 3. Cadets, 4. SCV, 5. Blue Devils, 6. Phantom Music GE : 1. Star and Cadets, 3. Blue Devils, 4. Phantom, 5. SCV, 6. Cavaliers C.G. : 1. Star and BD, 3. Cadets, 4. Cavaliers, 5. Phantom, 6. SCV Visual Ensemble: 1. BD and Cadets, 3. SCV, 4. Star of Indiana, 5.
