Best 1st Place Show?

Recommended Posts

Here it is, no BS intro. Just vote away!

What was the best first place show of all time?

*Make honorable mentions if you must, but posts with multiple corps WILL NOT COUNT.

*Please include the corps name and year. There are some corps with multiple entries, therefore I cannot automatically assume you are voting for the most popular corps.

*Once your vote has been cast, it cannot be changed. This makes tallying results much easier.

Honestly, not many championship shows strike my fancy...

But my vote goes to the one and only best show of all time, from a scoring standpoint (and for #### good reason)

2002 Cavaliers

No show has approached that caliber of drill since, aside from the '03 Cavies. While there may be other shows with more passion and emotion, there are none which are more precise, clean, and awe-inspiring than this one. I back them all the way in this vote!

Well, here we go. The toughest question of the night

Honorable Mentions:

-The '75 Madison Scouts are the textbook definition of power

-The '76 Blue Devils fielded an all jazz show

-The '79 Blue Devils' program was as smooth as butter

-The '87 Cadets...what can I say? Copland and Garfield...a beautiful duo

-The '89 SCV put a jaw dropping show on the field and has been an insperation to drum corps and (especially) marching bands from then on

-The 1991 Star of Indiana pushed the boundaries, as always.

-The 2002 Cavaliers had one of the most demanding visual programs in history

-The 2003 won their 11th championship show with an all Brubeck rep

*Sigh* SO HARD!

I'm going to have to go with the 1984 Garfield Cadets. This is probably the perfect show. It was simple, but the music was complex. It was powerful, but it was beautiful at the same time. Not only that, but it was balanced; not only with instrumentation, but with dynamics. Loud is great, and so is soft; but the 1984 Cadets did both perfectly. Everything, percussion, brass, and guard, was in perfect harmony with each other.

Oh boy... well... what can we say about 1st place?

They did it. They won. I have to give a "hat's off" to the (IMO) "milestone" winners:

Kingsmen - our first winners ever.

SCV '73 & '74 - two time winners from the beginning

Madison '75 - set the bar even higher

Blue Devils '76 - Well now, here was a show that changed the activity... first "turning the corner" show

Cadets '83 - "Corner turning" show again...

the first "three-peat" - Cadets ('83,'84,'85)

Star of Indiana

Cavaliers '92 - from bottom of pack 10 years earlier to consistent winners ten years later, so '92 was a pivotal year for Cavies. Well run organization to survive so many years when so many went down around them...

My vote for best 1st place show?

can't do it. I ABSTAIN.
