I realize I'm bringing in a BD reference, but it relates to old school rifle squads...
There is a picture of a line of BD rifles, with Lee Doebler in front, and the rifles are frozen mid-toss in a perfect vertical line, and I think even their hand positions during the toss were also identical. It is a fabulous photo. Anyone from that time says, "Yes! That's it! That's what it is supposed to look like!" They spent hours perfecting spin timing and every angle.
In light of rumors that the man who nailed Jeff Prosperie with an axe is being considered for a promotion, I was listening to some recordings of Prosperie's judging.
Were those "the best rim shots ever"?
1. 1993...another week and they would have presented a huge challenge to Cadets and Star
2. 1996....my dog has fleas! Only complaint about this show was that third soprano hanging a release right before the final push!!
3. 1991...the is purest form of Phantom Regiment
4. 2008...the will power the performers had was awesome
5. 2010...how I wish they had stayed with Rosander
6. 1989...closer gives me chills every time. ride cymbal just makes me cringe and I'm a brass guy
Honorable mentions...basically 2003-2007 + 1995....really loved this show but it gets no love since the top 4 was a blood bath and no behind them was even close.
least favorite
2009...design staff must have gone on a bender after 2008
1998....design was not even worthy of semi finals...performance level kept them in
1992...how did this manage to get sandwiched between 1991 & 1993. Understand the concept but just never worked
anything post 2012...
Good question. Who knows? Seems like they weren't and aren't the only corps to do that. I do know that they're working on foot timing while playing fast music at a fast tempo, so my guess is maybe, if their design calls for it during that portion of the show...
They still need to fit the criteria on sheets and design shows that will do well this year and not necessarily what would have done well in 1995...
This is possibly the best teaser ever.
Rife with mystery!
Aside from OC18's show, I must convey my enthusiasm for the lineup slated for OC's one and only DCI event - Drums of Fire. Best ever. (Cadets, Vanguard, Academy, Blue Knights, Pac Crest, Troopers, OC & Scades - WHAT?) New venue though, and not even in Oregon but hey, we are so hungry for drum corps here in Oregon that we'll even cross the mighty Columbia River for it.
I was more referring to hand placements, weapons angles, & stuff like that. You could get ticked for not having these correct, & Guard members had to master these basics before they could even think about spinning or tossing a weapon.
A lot of people on here are really hating on the pit, and I don't get it, I understand the distaste for synth but I think the pit in general has added some awesome musical opportunities.
