  1. Because for some of us, P/R in G is what drum corps sounds like.
  2. Unfortunatly, because they did not make the show, there is no video. Sorry for the bad rhyme - I could not resist.
  3. Last year the shows from the previous year were in-elligible. Personally I would vote for 79 North Star and Phantom.
  4. Kilties in 78 started the year with these kind of, shall I say 'hybrid' (that's the polite term) things that were sort of a snare with about 6-8 tom-like things mounted around them. Just used a line of those - no snares or tenors. IIRC, they dumped them for a more traditional setup after about 3 weeks.
  5. Me too. I've been toying w/ the idea of a NASCAR-themed show. Guard running ovals each w/ a car-shaped flag and running into each other.
  6. Maybe I just don't understand, but with ordinals wouldn't each judge have to wait until all corps go on to assign an ordinal? Or are they still assigning numbers as it is done now and someone (tabulator?) figureing out the 1 to N ranking once all the numbers are in? If they combine the ordinal system w/ the random order performances like in '88 it could play havoc w/ slotting.
  7. 1987 Garfield for 2007 Classic Countdown!! (also 1979 Phantom & North Star)
  8. Fundamentalists play valve-rotor; The reformed play 2-valve; and the universalists play 3-valve.
  9. That is a loose end that they haven't tied down yet ba da boom
  10. Just for the sake of doing some math, Correps.com lists 1,237 junior corps (since about 1925) If we assume that each corps averaged 55 members (arbitrary, I know that historically 128 members was only the top 20 or so corps since the mid 1960s) , then there are 68,035 corps alumni out there. Now, also figure that say, 25% have passed away (also an arbitrary guess) - that leaves 51,026 alumni. Not the 2 million kids in bands, but still a core group of fans.
  11. True. This went as far back as the 60s IIRC. It kept corps from 'stealing' one another's members just before the season started.
  12. 1000 Airplanes on the roof - I guess that would be a real big aircraft carrier.
  13. To summerize my suggestion from the last page - anything goes should go to another organization that is not DCI. If a few units go along, then so be it.
  14. Want woodwinds? Fine. Start your own organization to oversee the activity. Bring in and/or train your own judges. Make your own rules. Get your own tour amd show sponsors. Get your own TV deal. But leave Drum Corps alone because woodwinds heve no place in drum corps.
  15. Where has all the backbone gone? if no one would sign up for that, then I can't imagine any of them doing something, like, banding together to break away from VFW. Jim Jones would roll in his grave...
  16. I remember seeing somewhere that in the early 1960s Belleville IL had something like 7 corps (IIRC 2 were all-girl) Toronto had 2 corps in DCI finals in 77(?) Oakland Crusaders and Sececa Optimists
  17. Funny thing is that today something like that could happen and either, (1) no one would notice (including judges), or (2) everyone would assume it was supposed to be like that.
  18. Then all the folks that want to force a vote on banning electronics, brinning back the tick system, or whatever, would only need to get the ear of one director. Starting w/ electonics, as that (IMHO) seems to the most hotly debated topic, might we find a director whom to perhaps enlist?
  19. Pioneer pays it's bills, the members are well cared for, and they have fun. Sounds like success to me.
  20. Bush is DCA. Would be DQ'd in DCI for overage members http://www.bushwackers.org/
  21. Maybe there should be an 'Outback Austrailian class w/ 'No Rules, Just Right''
  22. At the absolute very least this should explicitly be spelled out so there is no confusion. And, they should add "On first violation in a season, corps is disqualified from the contest, although they will recieve their appearance fees. On second violation, corps is disqualified for remainder of season and forfits all appearance fees for remainder of the season. The corps can reapply for DCI-member status the following season. "
