It has been quite a few years since I was at Allentown and I was wondering if they had moved the corps yet to perform further from the stadium. The top corps blasting their warmups really intruded on the corps actually performing on the field. By they way the top corps performing near the end didn't have this happen to them. I asked a corps director about this at the time and he said that's Allentown. I have seen only maybe twenty DCI shows in person but Allentown was the only location where I was distracted by external sounds.

Others than myself would be better qualified to comment but is it possible that the corps out here in West actually like starting out in California while their routines are coming together. They get more time at their home base which I think would be a positive. Especially in cases like SCV who didn't have an ending until a few shows in.

Drum Corps at the Rose Bowl (June 25, 2022)
NorCalDad replied to brassboy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
BD performs at a level no corps can really match. But I think of Drum Coros as an art. Because something is perfect doesn't make it art for me. I really don't want hear Moon River or maybe Simple Gifts being played by yet another corps. Congratulations to the Blue Devils on preforming what will be a technically perfect show come finals with performers that other corps can only dream of. I, however, will be following shows that maybe will take me the whole season to fully understand. -

Wasn't the Rose Bowl grass in 2007 my son who marched that year said it was terrible. But they switched to turf since then. Thought that would fix it. -

Maybe it is the quality of my stream but I find the unis boring. -
If previous scores shouldn't be considered, a opinion I share, perhaps step off times should be more random. I'm not saying the previous 17th placing corps should go last in prelims but maybe a little mixing up would would allow scores to more accurately represent a corps performance rather than having some preset starting point that is tweaked up or down. posted from the DrumScorps app

My son marched when he was 14 and did fine. However since we lived in the town where the corps was based there was really no move-in and they didn't leave the state until later than the other corps so the tour was not as long. Both of those things made it easier for a younger person to handle the load.

My son who marched years ago watched a little of one of the Flocasts with me. He really hasn't watched any corps since he stopped marching. He asked 2 questions One "When did they start putting a mike on soloists" and Two "When did they start playing music standing still though it was marching music." posted from the DrumScorps app

Bluetiful show Well performed I'm sure the crowds love a show with familiar music. But I don't listen to classic rock and get bored when the music is from my HS years. So this show does nothing for me. For me it's like hearing Simple Gifts yet again. -
My son who marched years ago ran into at least one judge who didn't get out of the way. That wasn't such a big deal but there were instances of equipment being damaged as a result of collisions. Bad enough when those collisions are members running into members tougher when a judge is responsible.

We Need More Open Class Shows in California
NorCalDad replied to Martha's topic in DCI Open Class Corps Discussions
Given that 2nd Sacramento show is the Mandarins "home" show with Mandarins running it and being the only WC corps there you'd have to find someone to organize it and without Mandarins being there attendence would drop. A casual fan like me is happy to watch OC corps but only as part of a show that has WC representation. -
I'm not sure corps members would appreciate outdoor practices during the daytime in Arizona or Nevada in August leading up to finals. Think that 110-118 temp might be a little much dry heat or not. Heck, I'd love if the finals were outdoors here in California but reworking the whole schedule to make that work isn't practical.

DCI World Champs Semi Finals - Aug 10, 2018

I'm sorry I can't help but think of original The Incredibles during a short part of Cavies show. There is brief part of the music which though played infinitely better sounds like it was lifted from half of the HS field shows I saw one summer. -
What is going on with FLO?
NorCalDad replied to DCIat14's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Had the please pay again on my Roku after the rain delay yesterday. Contacted "support" saying that I had uninstalled then reinstalled but got the same request for cash. Response was to log out then login guess they don't realize you have to login on a fresh install anyway cast to the TV from my $80 Chromebook pic was actually better than the HD Roku. Oh after I got a response from Flo the Roku worked too. Will have multiple options when my son pops by to watch. A former DCI corps member he hasn't seen anything this season except the Mandarins. He wants to see other corps. -
DCI Eastern Classic – Saturday, August 4, 2018
NorCalDad replied to Barneveld's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I have seen DCI shows in maybe a dozen locations, a small number compared to a lot of you, but Allentown was the only place we constantly heard warmups from corps yet to perform while a corps was on the field. I was reminded of this hearing battery warmups on the FLOcast today during other corps time on the field. Ticks me off as much today as it did in person. Given the fact they hold people from entering during a corps performance I wish as much concern was given to audio disturbances from other corps. Rant over back to the show. -
Pacific Crest and music from La La Land you got me. Having a son who marched Mandarins a few years back I do have a favorite but if I was going to show someone a 2018 Drum Corps show who knew nothing about the activity I'd pick this yrs PC performance. I think they would become a fan.

Sprung for Flo for the 1st time and so far so good. I haven't had any synch issues and I am running the sound through some external processing to make it sound more like being in the stadium. Probably not for a purest but I am loving it. -
Fan Network 2013 Semi-Finals
NorCalDad replied to rainshdw08's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Internet broadcasting is not that tricky anymore at the production end. I have watched many other live streams with more viewers than DCI has and they have not had the issues I have seen with Drum Corps broadcasts. Now they can not control the end users connection or equipment but those of us with rock solid high speed connections and high-end systems should have a reasonable expectation of a smooth broadcast. -
