  1. Hey, all I know about parades are that Surf won drums in Indy last year, and took third in brass... on kazoos.
  2. Yeah, Surf will take anyone with a good attitude. I'm hoping to see a lot of Glassmen recruits in a few weeks!
  3. Very unfortunate news... hope to see them back soon.
  4. Shh... we're still trying to blend in with the normal humans!
  5. Depending on where you are, Surf moves in on the 14th of June...
  6. November was percussion only. All brass auditions were conducted through online Skype-esque video chats/recordings. All of the callbacks and guard auditions will be this coming weekend (Dec. 21-23). I've got my callback, so we'll see how it goes.
  7. It was 2006. I remember seeing them at my first ever DCI show at Allentown that year.
  8. None of which folded, but were either moved or sold and then moved. There hasn't been a full blown fold (aka, the team ceases to exist in some form) for a long time.
  9. I think I remember hearing either a drum or effect judge choke up on a Crossmen 92 tape once...
  10. Awesome band, and it's great to see that story! ...of course, I'm a sucker for Asphalt Cocktail, so that had to help too.
  11. Funny you mention competitive inertia... Just for ##### and giggles, I went to corpsreps.com and figured out what every DCI Finals would look like without any of the G7 corps. I won't post the whole shebang here, but some fun little facts: -Madison becomes the new BD, winning 17 of the 41 championships, finshing 2nd or 3rd in 15 other seasons, and being the only corps to make all 41 finals. -Boston is second in both championships (6) and medals (13), despite doing neither until 2000. -The Crossmen still don't have a championship, but have been to Finals more times than any other corps besides Madison, and have 5 silver medals and 7 bronze medals. -Star of Indiana pulls off a 5-peat from 1989-1993, with 1993's 97.3 being the highest score in DCI history. -Four other corps win multiple championships: Glassmen have 3, and Blue Knights, 27th Lancers, and Blue Stars all have 2. -In addition to the Anaheim Kingsmen, Spirit of Atlanta, Troopers, and Suncoast Sound all have one trophy to their name. -Corps that have won medals but not championships (besides Crossmen): Colts, Bridgemen, Velvet Knights, Magic of Orlando, and Muchachos. -Most Finals appearances without a medal? The Freelancers, who would make finals 16 times. -With the G7, Southwind has never made DCI Finals. Without the G7, Southwind is a 10-time Finalist. -If they are still in DCI, both Vanguard Cadets (2000) and Blue Devils B (2011) make one Finals appearance each.
  12. Good to see Chris Arnold around! I haven't heard from him since his last year at Upper Perk. Omi is a great pickup too. Best of luck to Fusion!
  13. I'll give you the basses (and the snares ), but I like the tenor sound... Best economical selection as well. However, they are heavy as hell, and some of the supporting equipment (i.e. stands, harnesses, etc.) leave a lot to be desired. But again, for a corps in a financial pinch, Mapex would be my choice.
  14. Well, one's now in a service yard in Indianapolis... the other buses are probably safe and sound in that bus yard, along with all the trucks, old and new.
  15. I'm really trying hard to make a connection between those five, but failing miserably. That said, great choices!
  16. Don't get me wrong... I'm not a purist by any stretch of the imagination. However, IMHO the SFX were more of a distraction than they were an enhancement.
  17. Oh Michael, of course I meant to say "everybody from the Nintendo generation still knew what was being played."
  18. It's impressive, I must say... HOWEVER. As a notorious OSU hater (being the son of a Purdue grad and looking at both the 'Due and PSU for grad school), I will thoroughly rip them apart for "enhancing" the show with sound effects and the like that, in my opinion, are unnecessary for this kind of show . Cal just played, and everybody still knew what was being played. Besides, I liked Cal's show better with or without SFX anyways. EDIT: Plus, Cal had some major balls playing a fun show like that in Stanford, of all places. I think Stanford has an idea of what "fun" bands are. /bad attempt at trolling OSU
  19. Night on Bald Mountain, but I'd be happy with HotMK too. :)
  20. While I'm not the most gung-ho guy for Thom Hannum, last year WAS his first year with the corps, and there was possibly some adjusting going on... I think their drums will improve next year and in the future. As for Sylvester? Hmm...
