  1. I wish that we could see all the corps bank accounts and see which ones may be in trouble. I just hope that no kids are in camp or getting ready for camp only to find out that it just cost too much to take a corps on the road. I thought DCI's recommendations a few years back suggesting 50k as an emergency fund was a little high, but now I hope that all the corps have that extra cushion since we don't know how high these costs will go.
  2. My flex fuel for my car is $3.40 a gallon. gets slightly lower milege on flex than gasoline but still saves money overall
  3. Maybe more well managed corps, but we don't need more corps with old busses broke on the side of the road, Kids getting one meal a day. Corps making it to Indy and needing 5k to get the kids home. I don't think poorly managed corps are good for the kids or for the activity as a whole.
  4. I hope that they have good safety practices. If it were to become widespread in many corps it could make the housing situation even more difficult.
  5. I have a flex fuel car. Gas is about 2.70 a gallon right now, gets about 10% less mileage when I fill with flex, but it is mostly from corn farmers, not effected by Russia or Iran.
  6. It looks like most corps are doing shorter tours this year, that may help a little bit with fuel costs. I am not sure of the numbers but I know many of the trucks are owner operators. They may be loyal and doing it because they like it, however they are less likely to have guaranteed fuel contracts. There was a big jump in fuel prices in I think 2000 and the corps adjusted I am sure they will work their budgets to make it work. I think there are bigger issues to worry about right now.
  7. They probably have different work times for their regulaf jobs. One can take off weekends and is near where they practice, the other is probably a school teacher or another job where he can take the summer off.. I don't know but it is my educated guess
  8. I am kinda bummed that the Regiment, won't be at nightbeat. I have a large group that I am bringing and I have been telling them for 3 years how great PR will be and now it looks like they won't be there.
  9. If abuse or harrassment is involved here why havn't charges brought against the perpurtrator or the corps. Surely someone calling someone by a previous name should have the local district attorneys and prosecutors fighting over the chance to take this to court and show how they are protecting the young people in their area. Let the facts come out in court and the corps and staff member defend themselves there. This is surely a heinous crime that must be prosecuted.
  10. It is very hot in Atlanta in Late July, It would be extremely hard on fans to sit in the stands for 8 hours in the sun. With a dome you can have all day shows in the sun
  11. If like 15 years ago they had 30 corps trying to make finals the new classes would make sense. I have been wrong before but based on recent championships the open class and class A would likely have only 3 or 4 corps in each class. Maybe it will be more defined later If class a were a class for starter corps with lesser musical requirements and advertised as such that might justify the new classifications .
  12. stringed instruments also passed. Maybe some Mummers want to join in ?
  13. I worked with Regiment a few years back and hope to again in the future. In my experience they were very trans friendly and open to trans marchers and volunteers. I was not around the corps in 2021 so I do not know exactly what went down. However this does seem out of character for the corps based on my what I know from the past.
  14. I guess the tragedy in Waukesha on Sunday should hit deep for all of us. We all marched in a Christmas parade with our High School bands. 40 years ago drum corps were regularly in Christmas parades to. I hope that people are not afraid to march in the streets to entertain the people after this horrible event. Please keep the people of Waukesa in your prayers, or if you do not pray think a good thought for them. Please keep this non political.
  15. I am not sure how well DCA will do back in Rochester. It has been several more years since the Crusaders or Statesmen marched so they are less remembered now. Also DCA has lost many competing corps since last in Rochester. Most did not bring huge contingents with them but each corps bringing some fans added a little to the crowd. I wonder if they will reinstate the hotel policy ? I think Williamsport never got the economic impact they hoped for. However there will probably be no corps day tripping to compete in Rochester so they may get some money into their hotels.
  16. In 85 I was with another corps and I was amazed at the SCV show . I couldn't believe they were kids just like us. I still think that was one of the best shows I had ever seen. Maybe it was just seeing only parts of it live. Later I became friends with some people in that SCV corps . I think it is on my profile as my favorite show.
  17. With no scores would that end penalties for age outs, going to long, using flutes and violins so what if your score is thrown out for having a bunch of 40 year olds there is no score
  18. I dreaded a no score season, however I thought that musically most corps were the best I had heard in a while. maybe not as aerobic but just as entertaining and doing music they liked and that we knew and liked. however there needs to be a criteria for performance orders and such, would it be a random draw to perform at 10 am on finals day, Would you have Jersey Surf perform between Bloo and SCV ? May everyone would sit through 8 hours to catch Blue Devils at 2:30 then come back at 5:00 to see Boston.
  19. I was somewhat less than positive about this season with all the stuff that had been going on. Even just seeing Colt Cadets makes me miss being out somewhere in the heat helping out the corps in some way. I may still have to make my way to the midwest in a week or 2.
  20. I think the chain Music in Madison is about this. I am watching on flow and it started with a high school ensemble performing national Anthem to a very active crowd, happy to see corps back on the field
  21. I received an email in April from a corps saying to expect ticket sales as well as actual locations of shows around June 1.
  22. There are many people still in hysteria and buying the hype. You cannot force them to come out of the basement and do something before they feel totally safe. Some people think that they would be endangering their children's lives letting them travel anytime in the next few years.
  23. This was put out by a corps. I think this echoes a lot of the sediment here, we are not against having a season but there are still many variables out there We are cautiously optimistic about real, live drum corps this summer. However, please know that the best source of information regarding official really great Drum Corps events is the official really great Drum Corps website. While speculative dates may have been announced, many of these dates are NOT confirmed by the participating organizations and could be moved. We, too, are anxious to gather together - safely. But don’t go buying your plane tickets just yet. Our website, emails, and social media accounts are the best sources of information on our event dates. We appreciate your patience and understanding! and this is the corps putting it out
  24. I figured the Bluecoats wrong, thought they were doing the midwest thing, but looks like they were persuaded to go East.
  25. I do some occasional part time work with an events company and we just had a conference scheduled for Sept canceled, And our attendees stay in hotels, not high school gyms and don't spend real long times in crowded busses. Though most would have flown. The events company still has some events tenatively scheduled for July and August but I am not that sure how solid they are. I think that with the money the companies need to lay out for a big meeting they are not all that confident everything will be better by then. And I guess they can do the actual business online they just miss the fun team building stuff that costs money and makes people want to come to the conventions. I still havn't bought a plane ticket to Indy.
