  1. The top 3 corps had, essentially, the same concept. This is what we were, we have changed, this is who we are now. Very introspective stuff. They all executed this concept in unique ways. I doubt these three will have the same concept as each other again, but i do wonder what the new concept trend will be. I wonder if it will be about "foundations" or "structure".
  2. Unforgettable season for the vanguard organization. Silver, top percussion, top guard, scvc gold, and an amazing alumni show. I was fortunate to see them with a great view after the soundsport competition, it was quite emotional.
  3. Blue stars and blue devils have experience with home design
  4. That sweet sweet double intermission...
  5. Round tables. Can be used for torture or as a dinner table.
  6. My hot takes. Because you care. BD's show is just another cookie cutter BD show. I feel nothing when i watch it. They are going to win because when they have these shows they win. SCV are playing the hell out of their show, its definitely a show that is deserving of the gold. Every time it seems like 1 or 2 judges disagree. Also the brass should be scoring higher, not necessarily placement but in score. As much as crown has tried, i just dont like the last third of the show. Its a shame because the first 2/3rds is great. I also specifically dislike the end of the show, i really hope its not the same on Saturday. Im surprised bloo isnt third. Theyre ticking all the boxes and performing well. Maybe its their balance issues or the stationary stage. But i prefer them to crown. Cavies show is an enigma to me this year, but i enjoy it. Glad to see them pushing for 4th. Boston plays the heck out of their show, and its fierce as hell. Definitely deserve their placement. Cadets, Im surprised they aren't below BK with how dirty the cadets are visually still. Musically it has nice moments but doesnt wow me. BK, not getting the credit it deserves from the judges. Maybe its because they aren't using huge props and their guard outfits look like the rest of the corps, but i think the show is well done visually and impressive Musically. Phantom has come a long way, but im in a state of weirded out and bored during their show. Crossmen show is solid and enjoyable, the wall things aren't my favorite prop but i can look past it. Blue stars show is... Meh. I like probably one third of it and the lady marmalade section. Scouts, i was surprised they were so far ahead of mandarins last night. Especially since i expected mandarins to top them. The show itself is nice visually, but very WGI and musically i dont care for it. Mandarins, love their show. Is there a rule that a show about ink or book stories has to have everyone lay down at one point?
  7. True, although its tough to balance when a corps like bluecoats are amplifying the whole brass line at parts, and theyre playing loudly anyway. I saw them live at Massillon right in front of a speaker, nearly blew my hat off
  8. Me too. The sound at lennox is indeed an issue. Im surprised they continue having it at the theater given the attendance, other theaters in the area get more folks.
  9. Which cbus theater were you at? posted from the DrumScorps app
  10. Living in columbus I always try to make it out to this show, solid venue all around and usually the lineup is very good. This is the first year I can remember with bluecoats, wasnt this a Glassmen location before? Unfortunately I cannot make it this year. Timing is rough for me. Best of luck to everyone tonight and to garfield for a smoothly coordinated show.
  11. Seems odd that a show with 5 corps has an intermission.
  12. What is with the anorexia talk? is there a problem of anorexia and DCI that I missed? I understand that the higher levels of DCI typically have people who are slimmer, but i don't think its a problem for the activity top to bottom. The MMs are athletes and the demands are largely on things like agility and endurance rather than strength (with notable exceptions for specific instruments). They are more like soccer players than rugby players. Throughout a season a MM will probably lose weight because they are taking in x amount of calories and burning off y amount every day. The corps do what they can to make sure that the MMs stay well nourished and all that, but losing weight is only a problem if they are losing dangerous amounts of it. I still don't get the anorexia talk. if MMs were anorexic they probably wouldn't last a full season. Not to mention the staff should notice that x member hasn't been eating and it has been impacting their performance overall.
  13. Guidestar is largely self reported. I recently went in an updated my org's guidestar profile, realizing that it hadn't been updated in about 4 years.
  14. i finally have a lazy enough day at work to do this thoroughly. i'll include this year as one of the ten 2017. 1. SCV, i describe their show as a blitzkrieg this year. 2. BK, their strongest hornline to date and i like the design even if the judges don't. 3. Cavies because its a show that i want to see again and again, its so off the wall. 2016. A weak year for me as far as shows go. but 1. Academy, lovely show and they played the heck out of it. 2. BK, fantastic and emotional. 3. SCV because im a homer and didn't really feel much for other shows. 2015. The only year since 2009 where I didn't go to finals. 1. SCV, pure imagination was amazing, as was their creativity. 2. BK, you can see a pattern. ive adored their existential shows. 3. Crown, that was a fantastic show 2014. 1. SCV blow your face off show. 2. BK because who doesn't like to cry in drum corps? 3. Colts because i actually enjoyed it alright! 2013. 1. SCV because its impossible for me to not love their shows. 2. Crown, e=mc2 was fantastic all around. 3. Spirit, really liked their style here. 2012. I wish i could say all of the shows, this was one of the strongest years top to bottom for design in my opinion. 1. SCV, music of the starry night was "this is what SCV should be now" moment. 2. Phantom, oh that was a good show. 3. Jersey Surf, my friends and i lost our minds seeing it live in allentown, the show was a party. 2011. 1. Boston this was a great boston show. 2. Crown Rach Star was so fun. 3. Madison, tears. 2010. 1. Cavies, this show was just...madness 2. BK i enjoyed their book even though they really struggled with it. 3. Bluecoats. in retrospect a very underappreciated show, at the time it was so controversial. 2009. 1. SCV holy moly that show got my juices flowing. 2. Colts, i really thought they should have made finals. 3. BK this show was cute as hell 2008. 1. Bluecoats, the knockout was a great show and probably my favorite bloo show of all time 2. Phantom because im human. 3. BK, knight rein is underrated.
  15. One contributing factor might be the lack of a full regional so far.
  16. Scv ge has cut the gap in half from stanford to today. Scv visual program will be fantastic when clean, i can definitely see them catching bd here.
  17. Yeah. Visually scv are much cleaner than they have been the past few years. Both weber and gaines design shows that look hard and wow you with how hard they look. Weber however has his drill be as hard as it looks. Gaines designs are actually a lot easier than they look, but you dont notice it because all together you are impressed by how it all works together. Every time weber packed the corps in together for an intricate SCV logo or made the shield or had just tight formations in general, i cringed. It would only look good if it was done perfectly. Hard as hell to do that though. But hes still a fantastic designer and im glad he is still there. Gaines influence is only going to help weber in the long run.
  18. You must be new here. This has been an ongoing criticism of BD shows for some time now.
