  1. Lol I've noticed the people on DCP tend to beat a joke to death with blissful ignorance until it isn't funny anymore.
  2. Cavaliers in the top 3? Really? I know they had a relatively strong 2014 compared to 2013 and 2012 (ugh), but with the rumblings out of Cadets and Crown, the constant force of the Blue Devils, and the momentum of the Bluecoats, I don't see the Cavies placing in the top 3 this year. I can see them jumping SCV though. My guess is Cavies land around 5th this year, maybe 4th if Bloo or Crown don't put out stellar productions.
  3. I'm pretty sure singing is music. Unless I've been lied to my whole life.
  4. Pardon me for the correction, but it's actually "Déjà vu." It literally translates to "already seen."
  5. Not sure about best, but one of my favorites is the one from Turandot in the closer.
  6. Hey, I'm a huge fan of the modern shows as you already know, but I'd take Madison 88 over Star 93 anyday.
  7. I'm probably going to update my predictions every month (based on pieces and show announcements) until I submit a final one before the first competition of the 2015 season. For February: 1. Carolina Crown 2. Cadets 3. Blue Devils 4. Bluecoats 5. Cavaliers 6. Phantom Regiment 7. Santa Clara Vanguard 8. Blue Knights 9. Boston Crusaders 10. Blue Stars 11. Oregon Crusaders (ooooooh) 12. Madison Scouts
  8. I keep hearing this and I've lsitened to this show a thousand times and still don't understand what was SO amazing about the percussion. Maybe it just wasn't as flashy as other corps? I mean, this is coming from someone who hasn't touched a percussion instrument ever so obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about but I usually can distinguish phenomenal lines from good lines.
  9. Isn't that the point? People say today's shows don't have any full developed ideas. You had BD last year, Bluecoats last year, this show is starting to live up to that category, and we haven't even seen anything else by others yet.
  10. I've never understood how percussionists can read music so fast. I was a woodwind player who got plenty of sixteenth and 32nd note runs or just funky rythyms in general and I'd always have trouble just getting my eyes to keep track of the notes as they'd go by at higher tempos. Just thinking about the precision needed to pull off what you just described boggles my mind.
  11. Hm I mean, if a drum feature is what he wants, then that's fine but there's no need to attempt to make the hornline sound like a drumline (in the most figurative of ways)
  12. Not sure what I think of the new movements. The opener and ballad sound great but - and maybe this has to do with the fact that it was recorded in a gym - the new movement they've put up sounds very uncohesive/not musical. It just sounds like a bunch of frenetic notes being repeated in different patterns.
  13. Yeah staging will especially be key. Hopefully they learned from last year and will try to take on a more 2013 type of approach in terms of staging.
  14. Pfft and here we have people on another topic complaining about how modern DCI shows don't let shows build a musical idea anymore. That was beautiful and this show will be an absolute beast. They're already nominated for ballad of the year.
  15. As someone who has listened to many shows from the past 30 years through fan network, I agree with you in that the style of shows have turned into something like a highlight reel. However, i disagree that it takes away from the shows and their impacts. I like both styles equally and each have their own pros and cons.
  16. Reminds me of the guard unis my high school used for our phantom of the opera show. I think that would suit the Phantomettes well minus the large bottom of course
  17. The Cadets do it the worst and I think, the most often (seriously, GH doesn't understand how to tastefully use any electronics in general. Get that man an advisor) so obviously they're going to end up being the punching bag for the anti-narrationists on DCP. Me, I dont mind narration as long as it's tastefully done. The Cadets definitely do not use it tastefully.
  18. Hopefully not unless it's something wildly different. The biggest mistake Bloo can make this year is doing what Crown did from 13-14. They need to embrace and pursue creativity even after success. Doing otherwise would be foolish. But I have no doubts they'll put out another creative product this season.
  19. If they actually implemented something like that, they're losing a subscriber.
  20. Please don't. I love this show to pieces (and the corps itself of course) but that opener is sometimes painful to listen to. They did not have a good intonation night.
  21. I've taken French for 5 years. Lighten up. It was a joke.
  22. Wouldn't a frog be more appropriate? Come on Regiment, get with the program.
  23. Considering I didn't start following dci until, like, 2009, I don't have much knowledge about drum majors through DCI's history (read: almost none) but my vote would go to Dean Patterson.
  24. Or we can just do this. (Nothing good comes out of Florida)
