Drum corps or marching band this is one of the greatest times of all time. Being from Michigan I had the pleasure of seeing this show develop in ‘99...brilliant design and amazing execution.

Magic ‘99 would never have survived tour under the current scrutiny in DCI. That tour was a serious hot mess...we pulled through and made us all individually stronger for it.

This activity needs more epic musical failures like SCV 2018.

Blue Knights tried something like that a few years ago and imho it looked even more ridiculous. There are pros and cons to any technique but the real chance of injury comes when they are exaggerated to the extreme. You can teach a "straight leg" technique that looks very strong but is ultimately very relaxed if the group is properly conditioned and knows which muscles to engage. There are a lot more moving parts in a "bicycle" style technique and you need time and more mature group to teach and clean it...the ultimate reason more groups do not use it.

Well I'm Polish and French/French (Canadian) depending on how far you go back. Still prefer Guinness Extra Stout to Harp or Killians any day of the week.

It was Guinness in an official Guinness pint glass at one of the DCA shows in Minneapolis in 2006 or 2007. The bar was closing and I still had a full pint...would have been criminal to leave the Guinness behind.

When the Metropolis 1927 portion used as a closer felt like a victory lap the first time I heard it...you know the design staff did what they were paid to do. In a summer of outstanding ballads including "If I Fell" and "Natural Woman," SCV comes out with "My Body is a Cage" and say hold my beer....dueling baritones, that snap, faces ripped off, trumpet duet, followed by a dog whistle release. Now I am exaggerating a bit...but they could have walked off the field at that point and still placed in the medals, the design and execution was that good.

What happened to the good old days of sneaking on to another corps bus to take a #2 in their bathroom.

Predictions will be fairly meaningless until rumors are confirmed after September 1. Though there are the following observations... BD typically goes undefeated the season after a 2nd place finish. That being said no one (except BD) has steamrolled the competition since Cadets in 2005 than SCV this year and I would argue Vanguard did it in a more stacked field. SCV took overall visual performance even with placing behind Boston and BD...we all know how much caption creep there is with guard. SCV took overall music performance when Crown’s brass was as strong as ever and they had their best percussion section of the last 10 years. It is easy to think that Vanguard has reset the balance of power in DCI...especially with winning their first Ott trophy in 30+ years. Yes BD was young this year but suddenly there are many more attractive options... Vanguard and Coats are obvious BAC needs another year or two of maturity in their programming and are solid across the board Cavies over programmed this year but are very solid in all captions Cadets will surge sooner than people think if the rumors are true Crown...at the top musically but visually rough this year...don’t think it will get any easier next year

Too bad Empire Statesmen are not around in DCA any longer...
