  1. Just thought I’d share this interesting little statistic I put together. Which drumline brands do corps use in 2018? Academy - Mapex Bluecoats - Yamaha Blue Devils - System Blue Blue Knights - Mapex Blue Stars - Yamaha Boston Crusaders - Yamaha Cadets - Yamaha Carolina Crown - Yamaha Cascades - Pearl Cavaliers - Yamaha Colts - Yamaha Crossmen - Yamaha Genesis - Tama Jersey Surf - Mapex Madison Scouts - Yamaha Mandarins - Mapex Music City - Mapex Oregon Crusaders - Tama Pacific Crest - Mapex Phantom Regiment - Pearl Pioneer - Mapex Santa Clara Vanguard - Dynasty Spirit of Atlanta - Pearl Troopers - Pearl ————— Yamaha - 9 Mapex - 7 Pearl - 4 Tama - 2 Dynasty - 1 System Blue - 1
  2. I'm a BK homer, but it's extremely cool to see a new corps jump into the competitive end. Mandarins, I got my eye on you and I can't wait to see you in Denver
  3. I think Blue Stars, BK and XMen have developed the middle child syndrome
  4. My jaw dropped when I saw the giant Phantom quad break. Other than that, I don't remember much else about the show already
  5. I'll bite. Trying to leave out as much bias as possible 1. Crown 2. Devils 3. Cavaliers 4. Vanguard 5. Boston 6. Bluecoats 7. Blue Stars (Oh yes I did) 8. Cadets 9. Phantom 10. Blue Knights 11. Crossmen 12. Mandarins 13. Academy 14. Madison (Sorry... I love you madison) 15. Spirit 16. Colts 17. Troopers 18. Oregon 19. Pacific Crest 20. Cascades 21. Genesis 22. Music City 23. Pioneer 24. Jersey Surf
  6. You know what? I actually kinda liked Game On. It’s not in my five favorite Cavaliers shows, and I get that people were very underwhelmed because it didn’t reach expectations Cavaliers fans have. But I thought the music (especially in the opener) was very solid, and it still had its “wow” moments. I also heard that many of the corps got sick on tour that year and ran into other problems. In a way, I think what happened makes the show’s theme, about perseverance and overcoming obstacles and all, more meaningful to me. Again, it’s not my favorite, but I wouldn’t say it was my least favorite either
  7. I hope they don't do away with the pit openings that leaded into the brass hit altogether. Those were finger-lickin' good
  8. Probably too early to start, but their 2017 thread was disappointingly quiet... I'll just start now to get the ball rolling. I can only begin to imagine what they'll bring to the table leading off from 20i7, what do you think?
  9. Vanguard, Boston, Mandarins, Blue Devils, Cavaliers, BK and Madison, no particular order But there isn't one show this season that I think is mediocre, boring, uninteresting, or not good. They're like children, I appreciate them all in one way at least
  10. ...So I guess we're all not going to talk about the Mandarins' pillow people? I think they look adorable and I have no clue why
  11. This topic is kinda cheesy, but I think of this every now and then. There are some corps that have something unique about them, but for others, maybe not much right off the bat. For example, Bloo pretty much has the title of being the hipster corps for their unique show titles and music selections in recent years. And obviously, the Cavaliers are all about masculinity. I'm lazy and won't list what I think of what makes every corps unique here. What titles do you all have in mind? No particular reason why I'm asking, just curious
  12. Oooooh, sorry Unless if you think three points is good enough? Oh man, their music this year is ground-breaking and is material worthy of reaching new heights, it's really unfortunate for me how dramatically their guard is bringing them back scorewise (I'm not saying that as a discredit towards the guard section themselves, they're all incredibly talented. I'm more referring to the choreography and equipment). Hope they figure out this whole equipment thing and clean it, or scrap it and replace it for something more judge friendly. I love this show too much to want it to take a hit at finals week as well
  13. ...Real quiet in here. Did this show even happen? Or maybe I'm missing something....
  14. Holy pony eating macaroni Not quite sure if I like it or hate it yet
  15. I admire some of the uniforms (or "costumes," before I get ripped to shreds) this year, but I already miss all the hats
  16. My short rundown of tonight Bones - Great Stars - Also great Cadets - Holy smokes Cavies - Kicked butt Crown - Ehh... Kinda boring if you ask me Bloo - Also kicked butt. All corps did fantastic though and I can't wait to see more shows, and how the competition unfolds
  17. I'll put here my last before tour here. No ranks, but an analysis of some corps BLUE DEVILS - I currently have virtually no insight onto their show yet except for their title and repertoire. But knowing BD, I have a gut feeling that they'll display some of DCI's most inventive visuals this year. I can't wait to see what they do with Flight of the Bumblebee CAVALIERS - Saw them on Flomarching and they got me from surprise. I had no idea what I was getting into just by seeing the show announcement. And after seeing it, I'm still not exactly sure what I saw. But that doesn't mean that it was something. I have a feeling that this show will spill some controversy about electronics, but as one who is pretty okay with electronics, their implementation of electronics didn't take away too much of the show for me, although they did feel a weetad too abundant. But I did appreciate the way they used it. The drumline was extremely solid, so they get a shoutout. I was bummed to not see the weather due to weather, because I have a feeling that what I could've seen could've given me an adrenaline rush like last year's ending. This show really did spin my head BLUE STARS - I'll admit that I was underwhelmed when they announced their show, but now that I saw it, the show passed my expectations. I'm glad that they covered more stories than Romeo and Juliet. I think. The show was easy to follow and they really did a good job with getting fitting props and uniforms for the show. I noticed that the hornline wasn't involved as much and wanted them to play more. Most of the time they were at horns down. They're doing a good job at keeping their identity and riding off their older shows with this one. BLUE KNIGHTS - Some people predict that they'll either stagnate or drop when it comes to scoring, and I can see why. One reason is because of other corps kicking it into high gear this season, and maybe another was because last year didn't live up to expectations. Maybe they're right about the former, but after seeing what they have on the field twice already, the latter couldn't be further from the truth. They're also cranking it up this season and really putting something else on the field this year. I mean, talk about physically demanding. From all sections. I've seen it twice already and I still feel like I need to watch it another 15 times to catch up on anything that I've missed. It also has its fair share of memorable moments, too (IKR?) Also, (if you haven't seen the show yet) please don't go off the Vic Firth videos as a first impression, there's WAY more to the show than the percussion book. You'll know when you see it. I'll be very baffled it they get any lower than 8th at finals, frankly. BOSTON CRUSADERS - Fact: I didn't think much of when I heard everyone say that they're going to step up their game this year. Other fact: I'm wrong and ignorant. Holy cow. I had stated that I'm a fan of dark and in-your-face shows and this show is just that. It's becoming a trademark for Boston it seems, and I like it. That drumline is spectacularly solid. And now that I've seen the show, those uniforms are really clever and are probably my favorite this season. This is a perfect concept for Boston to touch up on. It also has its emotional and very passionate moments. This show is truly going to be wicked. Carolina Crown - Top notch brass + weird leg movements = trademark Crown. They're pretty great. The vocalist and all. #PurpleJacketBand? This is without a doubt going to be a powerhouse year.
  18. 2007 - Cadets If DCI was a video game, this show would be the tutorial 2008 - Cavaliers Mainly because of the drill (Phantom is not very far behind) 2009 - Blue Devils Each section stood out in some way 2010 - Cavaliers It's memorable and unique and also BOOM SHAKALAKALAKA 2011 - Cadets This is currently my most-listened show 2012 - Bluecoats This is the only show I remember well from this year 2013 - Blue Devils (Crown is not very far behind) HOLY COW THAT DRUM SET STOLE THE SHOW 2014 - Crown There was a lot going on here and I liked it all 2015 - Bluecoats The ending gave me the ultimate adrenaline rush. I really enjoyed it live 2016 - Cavaliers ^read^
  19. No shakos. Each section has their own "eye" color though which adds to the overall concept, so you could say that again. Wait until you see the guard equipment
  20. Their send-off show was fire. Their choreography was overloaded, but more fluid and better executed than last year. 107 Steps is their most percussive song for a while. And to say that they're keeping their identity this year would be an understatement. And am I the only one who likes their uniforms?
  21. Here goes nothing 1. Blue Devils - might be all over the place throughout the season but they'll really strive for the gold when finals comes around 2. Vanguard - Again, it's been too long 3. Bloo - Corps tend to dip in scores after a successful year 4. Cavies - Really diggin' their show concept 5. Cadets - Last year was good, they suffered a little dip, but it won't cause a descending momentum for them 6. Crown - I hear of things that may hurt them (please prove me wrong Crown) 7. Phantom - I also dig their show 8. Boston - Hear that they'll step up on their game 9. Knights - I hate myself for putting them this low, BK are my homeboys. I just feel that the other corps will outplace them (PLEASE prove me wrong BK) 10. Madison - They realized that they needed to step their game last year 11. Stars- This is too rude of a place for me to put them in, I want them to ascend 12. Academy - Really it's a toss between them and Crossmen through the whole season, but they'll push to be in the top 12 again (Sorry Xmen I love you)
