  1. There are judges tapes all over the related fb corps and youtube. Just go look for them.

  3. Feeding and buses for a 300+ member corps for a full tour? Good luck with that.
  4. In 1990, watching Star's hornline and being in absolute awe. . . I was fortunate that we saw so much of them that summer.
  5. Man, the whining on this thread is amazing to me. The staff is making an artistic choice here. I don't know what the program is for the coming year, but perhaps the staff feel that going all-female for this season is a better fit? Is it the best choice? Time will tell. If it isn't, you'll probably see a new staff. That's the risk. No risk = no reward Will this put PR at a competitive disadvantage? That remains to be seen an well. You have (2) all-male corps that put themselves at a competitive disadvantage in ALL captions year-in and year-out in terms of recruiting, but they seem to survive, and many years even thrive. SCV and other corps (Bluecoats come to mind - 1990 maybe) have made this switch before. It wasn't that big of a deal back then, but then we weren't "blessed" to have such a "community" where malcontents could whine, dissect and second-guess every decision made in the off-season. We were so deprived back then.
  6. Windex. No taco salad, please. When we had taco salad we lost.
  7. Many, but not all. Yamaha faithful since the 1987 season. . . . .
  8. Morris Brown was shafted. Big time. Oh, the injustice.
  9. I can honestly say I didn't hear any booing either, but I was out at the 20 yard line. Maybe the quality of sound of the "boos" was greater at the 50. If that's what an extra $40 (on top of the $85 that I paid) gets you, I'll pass. . . . The lack of enthusiasm at the announcement of the champion was far more telling than any boos from the audience. It was just a totally different feel from any finals I have ever attended before.
  10. Standing ovations have a way of adding a few seconds to the overall time of the show.
  11. Yep. Funny how times change, don't they? “Before you go and criticize the younger generation, just remember who raised them.” - unknown (at least by me)
  12. I am really glad that threads like this weren't around when I marched.
  13. Ok, that was a good one. Best of luck to the men of Madison this summer.
  14. No major predictions, just wanted to be part of the best thread title since I started reading DCP a long time ago. I loved this show 20 years ago, and I still do. I am so glad it's still around. 1990 Normal Show trivia: The night before this show the Cavies won their first DCI regional ever at Whitewater, upsetting (2) undefeated corps. The show was a lot later in the season in those days. Early the next morning one of the tenor players stumbled off the bus in Normal and thought that he had dreamt the entire thing. This show "broke in" the artificial turf at the stadium. It had been installed the night before. Slippery stuff!
  15. Caught the show at the Hollywood cinema in Appleton, WI. The volume levels were fine. This was a great countdown. I finally got to see SCV on the big screen. What an amazing show! Following up with Gah-fielduh's rendition was a really nice touch. Getting to see Troop take the field and the crowd's reaction was worth the price of admission. I loved the spring camp segments. All the corps looked great. I didn't know that BAC went to Florida for some of the winter. Loved my Cavaliers. Didn't care for Delucia's jab at the end, though. I sure he knows that many of us don't like him, either. The "G" in the Cadets production still got to me. Heck, the whole show still got to me. Crown is awesome. So happy to see someone different up there. This run of hornlines that they have been putting out is the best I've heard since early '90's Star. Devils were still the cleanest. Loved seeing to '88 stuff. I miss Float. I loved the reaction of the "younger" folks in the audience to the '85 SCV uniform change. It's amazing what you take for granted. It still holds up after all these years. Overall, a great production. It did the job. I can't believe that I am seeing people whine about the price. It costs 8 bucks to see Iron Man during the same time frame. $12.50 (plus tax) is a steal for what we got.
  16. Looks like it to me. If a judge is killing you on the field, hire him on your staff. ( I kid, sort of) It worked for Koter as well. He didnt' do us any favors late in the '90 season, not that I'm bitter.
  17. I always loved that transition from the pit to the brass. Now I know why it was so good. Thanks!
  18. Hey, they were a great line. I know I was nervous when we faced them for the first time in Whitewater.
  19. Ya gotta give props to 86 on it's own. And I'm struggling with the 2009 mention. I'll respectfully attribute that one to the recency effect. Loved '94. And as someone mentioned, don't forget Float's swansong in 1990.
  20. Are the local music programs capable of delivering kids that can successfully audition for a top-20 corps? I honestly don't know. I've lived in northeast Wisconsin for 8 years now. I'm not seeing it up here. Best of luck to the Scouts on their journey back to the top 12. My guys went through the same thing. It was a long, hard road, but they came back. You can do it. Bottom line, you are the Madison Scouts, no matter what.
  21. Interesting thread. . . even if it does make me feel old as dirt. I saw "the frack" live. I remember the sinking feeling in my stomach as I heard it. There were a few Devils alumni sitting next to me, and they just put their faces in their hands. It was a pretty gutsy call to have that kind of exposure in the first place. A risk-reward play. Would any arrangers do that today? I'm not so sure. It just didn't work out. Did it sink the corps that year? Probably not. I do remember thinking that the next number started a little shaky, but maybe that was just my perception. I did love the musical selections that year. Johnny One Note smoked off the line. Oh, and put me in the camp of 80's BD over 90's BD. Float's lines in the early to mid 80's OWNED high drums. It's amazing how people forget that now.
  22. Knocking off undefeated corps is fun.
  23. 1992 Devils. When a Man Loves a Woman. 'Nuff said.
