Most competitive season in DCI history?

My thoughts have been running wild today about my experience watching Atlanta's Regional and some of the San Antonio broadcast. I truly think DCI has reached an entirely new plateau this year from quality and performance top to bottom. And HOLY COMPETITIVE! The honor of being in finals is going to take on an entirely new level.

Definitely the most top to bottom interplay in a season in fifteen years or so, IMO.

It will be a heck of a Friday show, that is for sure. Getting tougher every year to make finals.

It's a knock-down, drag-out fight to the finish, with entertaining shows up and down the ranks.

To quote Mike Boo from 2002... "This is the best year of drum corps EVER!" :P

1. We see the same fluctuations in placement through the end of the season,

and

2. someone rises up and beats the semi-finals winner at Finals

THEN I'll be willing to say that this has been the most competitive season ever.

If not...well, it will still be good ; but it will seem very empty.

I can't ever remember the top 7 corps being this close. I do remember 1980 Championships in Birmingham, top 4 within .8 if I remember correctly.
