Cadets To Play Bernstein in 2009!

Recommended Posts

but didn't bluecoats beat them in 06? i'm sorry i don't understand the connection. if i get what you are going for, please correct me if i am mistaken...you are saying the Cadets might turn towards a more "traditional" show because it is what a lot of people are hoping for with the return to "Holy Name" and bringing back Bernstein. Unfortunately, i do not believe this is the case. with george hopkins being the champion of the (shall we say) "recent expansion" of the activity, I do not believe they can have a show without using most if not all of the newly allowable elemnts. now this is not a shot at hopkins or the new rules, which i would always save for a rainy day, i am simply saying that why ask for it if you're not going to use it?

The $64,000 question is will they talk Bernstein?

No... they're LITERALLY going to play Bernstein! Like this:

The Cadets rehearse about 9 miles from where I live during the school year. If we learn that they will not be utilizing spoken word in this show I will very strongly consider attending the first audition camp.

If this scenario doesn't work out, would you consider auditioning somewhere else? You are, after all, talking about one of the "BIG 3." 80 spots will go faster than a hot Starbucks latte on a cold winter morning. And you kind of have a history criticizing the corps, the organization and one of the biggest egos in the activity in the Director. Plus you put your photo out on DCP previously. If I had to bet money, I would expect you would be...ahem..."invited" not to attend the second audition camp...if you made it through screeners to attend the first.

I know your love for the Cadets organization despite your disdain for their current on-field programming. And I know that had I been unable to march Phantom...even ONE year...it would have grinded me the rest of my life. But you have to consider that you have been quite critical of YEA/Cadets/Hop...and realistically consider if they would even invite you to attend audition camp. You've spent much of the last 1 1/2 years saying that you were done with Cadets. Would it not be more realistic and wise to plan on showing up at Jersey Surf or another northeastern corps?

Don't get me wrong...I hope they do an "unplugged" Bernstein. I hope they do music they've never performed before...really explore Bernstein that we drum corps fans have not seen presented before...or at least in a VERY long time. And I sure hope that you take the opportunity to march a corps before you age out. But I'm not sure that will be--or SHOULD be--Cadets.

Good luck with that.

Looking at the last several posts.............................and there you have it..Pick a corps based on what they are going to do a certain year not for the love , respect or loyalty you would want to give the program.

NO program, (although many are full with people like this) need critics in the ranks otherwise go somewhere else !!!!
