Crown Fans Pushing Me Away

Recommended Posts

Laura VanDoren, is a member of the "Crown Family" wife of Donnie, Mother to Evan and Carrie, and every student who ever marched for Carolina Crown. She is a wonderful person .Nobody call's her out in public and doesn’t have to answer for it. For 20 years Crown has been trying to build a World Class Drum Corps, Our goal has always been to do it with Class, Give the Students a "first class experience" and do it with the Fans in mind. Crown =entertainment. We have always had our hearts in the right place. What you see today is a product of Love for the activity, and love for the students. No one from this organization has ever attacked anyone personally or any other group of students. So, please do not call out one of our "family" because she expressed her elation for MANY years of hard work. I personally appreciate what all the corps are doing and have been very upset over the years about things said about Crown and other organizations as well. This is a forum; we respect your right to express your opinion but please don't call anyone out.

No one called anyone out. They just read what was posted on the internet. Maybe they will come apologize to the person they accused of "making up that a Crown tuba fell". Why would someone make that up?

here's the question that, IMO, can not be answered.

we're all fans, and passionate. we all have our criticisms. DCP was never intended to be the happy sunshine place, so that in mind:

how is it people can post criticisms without upsetting someone somewhere?

they cant. People will always take offense. I did a review from the first show of the year that in many ways praised Cadets, but someone got all butt hurt because i did criticize a few things.

me...i laughed it off. But some people cant. It's why reviews these days are down from the past.....too many people afraid to give their opinion and be crucified, and reviews of drum corps shows are like reviews of movies...OPINIONS!

so guess what...people will criticize. people will gloat and band wagon jumpers will usually be ########s.

so ignore them. be proud of your corps, your kid, and ACCEPT people may not be jumping up and down like you are. The sooner people realize people arent as into a corps as you are, the much happier you'll be in life.

and while i'm on it..please remember, when people are talking about their dislikes of what a corps is performing THEY ARENT TRASHING THE ####### KIDS. THEY ARE SHOWING DISPLEASURE ( maybe even extreme) TO THE DESIGNERS.

I am so ####### tired of being told if i make a criticism i am trashing a kid. we all respect every one of them, and they dont design the shows, so get a ####### clue and realize we arent bashing the kids when we talk about disliking a show.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT I MAKE THIS STAEMENT.....

Well the fact is that over the years most of the CROWN fans have been disrepected over and over again. So, when "WE" get a moment of achievement ie... the 2008 Orlando win over the Cadets, 2009 Normal win over Phantom and the Cavaliers it almost becomes overwhelming.

Like it was stated before there are 2 types of fans. There are the fans of the corps that really just see it from the outside usually a family member or a brand new person to the activity. But then there are the fans that have been around the corps from the inside, former students and staff members that have an inside knowledge others dont have. I believe that going up and down the road with the corps changes your perspective.

As i was a member of the 94 CarolinaCrown until my season ened early due to injury and illnes, i finished the season with the corps from a more of a staff support role. Going to every rehearsal and seeing thing operate from and staff and student side at the same time you get a better grasp of the full picture.

I remember for example the greatest achievement for Crown that season was coming in 17th place and being compared to STAR of INDIANA in one DrumCorpsWorld article, "a stretch" but very flattering to a bunch of high school students that loved the drum corps that no one knew.

Then came 1995 and Crown was getting better and everybody still hated on the corps. It was a great show and people just loved to hate CarolinaCrown.

When 1996 came Crown broke out 20ft chess pieces and turned the football field into a chess board, and all the kids heard were those props are dumb.

Its funny because everytime Crown would do something new and fresh the majority of the community called it silly or something else unflattering.

The one thing Crown's achievements have done over the past 20 years has made their fans very protective over everything they do.

Crown fans even get protective of the 2002 year, even though the corps wish they could get a redo. Even a not so great season like that is part of what make Crown fans so strong willed because only a TRUE Crown could watch that show more once all the way through.

So when the armies of other established corps fans start to dog your corps that has done everything to become a "legitmate player in the game" feeling run high!

And when Crown comes out on top over the corps that many students idolized in the activity, there will be HONKING going on. But remember it was a long hard road to get to where Crown is now.

Dont forget THE CADETS have been around for 75 years, but have only been championship caliber since around 81 or 82. A little over 25 years!

Crown has had a meteoric flight to the upper tier in the activity. The excitement for Crown is at an all time high. If you enjoy the corps enjoy the corps. The fans that understand what it took to get to get here will always respect the corps enough not to embarass Kevin Smith and the rest of the organization with ignorant rants and raves.

The fans will always be who they are WE LOVE THEM ALL THE SAME!!!!

ITS KINDA LIKE IN FOOTBALL, SEASON TICKET HOLDERS, YOU HAVE THE FACE PAINTERS AND SCREAMERS and YOU HAVE THE BOX SEAT HOLDERS!

We all love the same team, but we just all show it differently.

These type of things have been going on in Drum Corps since time immortal. That goes way back to the days when returning military vets decided to start their own corps and the Neanderthals on the other side of the clacier decided to start one too. It was just a matter of time before some sparks started to fly, and it's been that way on occassion ever since. :worthy:

Psst....and i know cadets folks will be shocked to see someone labaled a "Cadet heater" pointing this out but...

in the DCI era the Cadets have 'only" been a contender since 1982 yes. But please remember all those years between 1934 thru the early 70's when they were a contender for many championships of the day
