I voted for the 82 Blue Devils.

The headstrong competitive attitude of that corps was scary. Winning wasn't sufficient. The 82 Blue Devils felt they were competing against the standards set by previous corps (76 BD, 75 Madison, etc. ). The 82 Blue Devils wanted to be considered the best drum corps of all time and wanted to be one of "those" corps that others talk about for years to come.

I really think this is the best choice. For those of you who have not seen this show...it's worth the cost of the FN or the DVD just for this show alone....although there were other great shows from 1994.

This was one of the finest drum corps performances I have ever witnessed and I've been watching since 1968.

I saw it for the first time in Madison for the Preview of Champions and it took at least 20 minutes to move my jaw off of my chin.

Awesome drum corps...and left no doubt they were the champions...not seriously challenged at all.

'94 Blue Devils were ( and remain ) one of my all time favorites. They won Finals by .7 tenths.

'82 Blue Devils more than doubled their point margin over their competitors over that of the '94 BD. ( by 1.7 points )...... even more dominating in my opinion.

You know, a lot of people hate all these polls. Not me. I love 'em! It forces me to go back and watch these fantastic shows! Thank God for the Fan Network!

And it's '82 Devs for me. No if's and's or but's!

If margin of victory is an indicator, then Cavaliers 1.85 spread over BD in '02 - achieved while setting a new scoring record - would seem to point to them as the most dominant corps of this grouping.

I'm a big fan of '82 Devils, don't get me wrong, but the question is of figuring out which of the greats in the group was the one who made the biggest impression or who stood out the most. Purely from a numbers standpoint, it's kinda hard to argue against what Cavaliers accomplished that year.

Wasn't 75' Madison undefeated?

Yes, although some people will point to a second place in prelims a DCI Midwest as invalidating that. No prelims championship trophy is awarded as far as I know.

Are scores given?

If you are ignoring prelims scores then you have to add Garfield '83 who went undefeated all season except at the world championship prelims.

This recap is in error. I marched in the '75 Scouts and can attest that the only time we were beat was at prelims, which did not count as a contest back then. That is something that we were NOT happy with and made sure we corrected at finals, with a vengence. I also don't recall that we lost to anyone in brass that year either, so I think this recap is flawed.

We were undefeated in '75. It even says so on the ring.

CT

hells yeah!

I'm amused about the discussion of 75 Scouts yet nobody has brought up 83 Garfield. If Scouts are undefeated, so is Garfield.

For me, a loss is a loss, regardless of the title or venue where the competition took place. There was a score, and a ranking, and it determined who made it into finals.

Because there was no trophy, well, that's stretching things a bit.

Having said that....the 82 Blue Devils were then not undefeated. We lost the Troopers home show which was judged by applause meter. The Troopers won.

How's that for throwing a wrench in things

Madison WON the title in '75. Their lone loss was at DCI Midwest prelims.

They meant Midwest finals, not finals finals.
