A plea to Cymbal lines

Recommended Posts

Everyone has seen the spectacular view that is called the SCV cymbal line. The innovation is always inspiring, but it has inspired one too many corps lines to immitate. I am tired of the head chop jump swing move that SCV made famous. To all the cymbal lines out there, please come up with some new, refreshing stuff. You don't see all the other corps hornlines going down to a knee and doing a leg kickout at the end of their show just because Phantom made it look good. So please, come up with your own cool tricks and leave SCV alone. From one intentional cymbalista to the rest........

actually that leg kick thing started with scv too. lots of corps have done it, especially in the olden days "when drum corps was drum corps and men were men"

What a relief. I thought there were several cymbal lines standing on a ledge 30 stories up threatening to jump.

That would be quite a crash!

Even better idea:

Drum corps. Please put your cymbal lines in the pit where they belong. Just because you can march a pit instrument, doesn't mean you should anymore. Do you see marching bells and timpani still on the field because of "tradition?"

Cymbal lines are still out there, but not because of tradition. They're out there because they're freakin' cool musically and visually. Marching bells and timpani aren't out there because there's nothing cool about them at all, so they weren't worth the back problems people got from carrying them. Nobody misses cool visuals from marching timps because there is no such thing!

ignore this idea. the marching cymbal can create sounds cymbals on a stand can not and also if done well, can add a lot to the visual end of a program.
