My personal cutoff is probably 1995. I'll listen to a few shows from before then, particularly 1992 and 1993, but not as consistently as shows from 1995 and on.

I understood that, but the poll should not have been written to require respondents to choose among the 25 most recent seasons alone, because that forces an invalid answer for many DCPers and renders the results meaningless. It's better to cover the range of possibilities, so you need at least one choice that says there is no limit. Also, it's not good practice in survey methodology to write a poll question where respondents have to pick one answer among 25 choices.

Writing the poll the following way would have given much more meaningful data: With rare exception if any, how far back are you willing to listen to or watch older DCI performances?

A. Within the last 5 seasons

B. Within the last 10 seasons

C. Within the last 20 seasons

D. Within the last 30 seasons

E. There is no limit

F. I don't listen to or watch newer performances, only older ones

G. No opinion

Vanilla with...

a drizzle of honey and a sprinkling of cinnamon

or

a teaspoonful of blackberry preserve (the kind with blackberry pieces - seeds and all)

US Brig. General George McCauliffe's reply to German Commander when surrounded, heavily outnumbered ,and being asked to surrender in the Battle of the Bulge in WW2 :

" NUTS ."

Sounds good to me. I'll go with some nuts on my ice cream.

I find it interesting that somehow you chose 1985....DCI has been around scince 1972.............Yes, I would agree that the quality of sound wasn't always the best.....however, there was some great playing and arrangements in ALL eras to appreciate......I went to a friend's house and he threw on an old record....it may have even been pre-DCI....from the very early 70's with the Argonne Rebels playing "Fanfare for the New". The level of musicianship displayed (even more impressive that they had to do it on valve/rotor horns) would stack up well even now.

Why start at '85? I still enjoy listening to the classics ('65 Royal-Aires, '66 Cavies, '72 Kingsmen, '73 SCV).

It's like listening to Enrico Caruso or Luciano Pavarotti on an old record player...
