CrunchyTenor
Didnt the corps known as "the Thing" become like the Vanguard or something?(scv). Sam is right. The Thing became Pioneer. Many know, but I'll repost it just for S&G's. The Thing was a merger between the Cedarburg Thunderbolts and St. Patrick's Imperials. That year they competed as The Thing, the brass and flags wore the red, white and blue of the Thunderbolts, and the drum line and rifles wore the black, white and green plaid of the Imperials. Not a pretty picture, as you can imagine from the description. A few have been mentioned already that were named for their primary sponsor. Arizona Sun had a committment from the Phoenix Suns, but Jerry Colangelo changed his mind right before their first season. It would have been nice to see if something like The Academy could have happened sooner in Arizona with the right sponsorship. As it was, they finished 7th out of 18 Div II corps in their second, and last, year in competition. Garry in Vegas PS Gail Royer formed the nucleus of the 1967 Santa Clara Vanguard from several Sunnyvale Sparks members. elphaba01
HAHA ... speaking of CT ... how about the St. Ann's Loyalaires ... ring a bell Elphie????:-) "Bell Ringer": "Ding, Ding, Ding"...... Some "Fun" memoriess with that one. The "Name" came from the kids/parents that stayed "Loyal" to the Parish. The "Lancers-Loyalaires" rivalry went on right up to the demise of both corps. RIP. Thanks for the "Memory Jog" Elphaba WWW

JimF-LowBari
Marshalltown, IA's Eye-Openers, and their feeder corps the Winks..... Well Eye Openers might go with Hamms, Schmidt and Ballentines except for that Jr/Sr thing. Any corps called Troopers with Wild West Calvary uniforms. Too many visions of Native Americans getting the shaft. oh wait a minit.....
