Lance
I'm in a computer lab and can't watch it...what is it like? the field is covered about 1/3 with tarps that make it look like a maze, and there's a giant eye in the middle of the field. and at the end of the show, a guy climbs some stairs and then takes a flying leap off the platform. "outdoor performance ensemble" is probably the best phrase for it.
N.E. Brigand
Does that mean drum corps "SHOULDN'T" use Synths and microphones. I sure wish they wouldn't.
charlie1223
"outdoor performance ensemble" is probably the best phrase for it. It was performed indoors ...
Catan
I'm in a computer lab and can't watch it...what is it like? Very visually fascinating with one of the strongest themes ever. Extremely demanding brass book and insane woodwind parts. An outstanding guard with imaginative work. Very "scary" lots of neat effects with voice and levitation. An outstanding trombone section feature. Lots of body movement and acrobat feats. Overall, and very engaging and awe-inspiring show!
N.E. Brigand
Just watched it [Tarpon Springs H.S.'s 2010 show, "Paranormal"].Sad to say that's what DCI is turning into. But Tarpon is good at what they do for sure. The music from Signs is wonderful. Yeah, whatever that is, and as expertly as it's being done, please keep it away from drum corps. No unmic'd horns for the first ninety seconds or so, loads of synthesizer and mic'd soloists, and as much vocal, or more, than Cadets '07 and '08. It's probably just the sort of thing George Hopkins had in mind, when he was crying about how difficult it was to tell a story without electronics. But why on earth should drum corps be a storytelling medium? Edited November 17, 2010 by N.E. Brigand
Catan
I just watched Tarpon Springs online. They're definitely not a marching band, I don't even know what to call them. As unique as Tarpon Springs is, they did win individual visual at GN with a 19.30, a full .3 over 2nd place Broken Arrow (winner of high visual). They can march. And this brings up the question: what defines a marching band?
