How will you react to the new G8 format?

How's about...as the Chairman of Forte's parent organization, may I suggest attending other shows full of Open Class corps and supporting them/us? Nobody said you had to go to G8/WC shows! We sell t-shirts too, ya know! :-)

I have a ToC show right in my back yard and I'm not going. Instead, I'm going to save that money and buy really good tickets to San Antonio to see the whole slate. I'll be in my seat long, long before any ToC corps go on.

I won't buy souvies from G8 corps either - but that's nothing new. I've been spending almost all of my money on the little guys for many years. I know that there are plenty of people perusing and buying the souvies for the top corps, so those corps aren't going to lose much if I don't buy from them.

I'm going to keep an open mind to what this year might bring re. some trial ballons some want to float out there to see if it'll fly, or sink like a stone. But I do understand some people's non support for this too.

I am just curious if the g8 show at Rutgers the day after allentown will hurt Allentown attendance. Think about it. Bigger stadium with the top 8 corps in the world, corps closer to the stands and not having to kill two days in allentown. I love the other corps but think of the money you will save on eating out 4 meals, gas, and two hotel nights.

Nothing like taking something that is struggling and making things worse. Most talk about a divide in Drum Corps that is now happening, they talk about the 1st g7 pp. and how much it is just going to ruin Drum Corps as people have kown it for all these years. Yes I know its not the same now, but that was the 1st impression. Me, I am on the fence. I enjoy the drama, and I sure would have liked to see the g7 go out on there own with nobody else just to see how they would have faired, man I wanted that to happen. Just so that 7 found out how good they had it, but of course we all know what happened. I sometimes think about when I marched, I think about all those finals I marched in and the stands were packed, how at no time did I ever think I was elite to the other Corps. Every year I marched we beat Bluecoats, CC, Blue Stars, most years Cavaliers, some years Phantom, Garfield, SCV and Blue Devils and never once did I think I was elite. Never once did I want to do a show without the other Corps. Never once did I think I was better than another Drum Corps. Maybe, just mabye that is why the stands are not packed at finals anymore. I cant say I will not go to the toc shows, I might want to check out the drama, I might want to see what is going to happen, as I said I enjoy the drama.

It was the money and vote Power Grab element of the first G8 proposal that makes the fallback ToC so unappealing to me and I'm sure others here, looking at these poll results. (The list of people pledging not to go is like an honor roll of people who Get It, to me, and this is not just the DCI-conspiracy brigade of previous fights. Some of us have been contributors to one or more G8 corps in the recent past, but they overstepped their bounds here.) If G8 had just come up and said, we'd like to do a ToC tour for part of the summer and try some new creative stuff, we think we can sell a lot of tickets, and we'll share the money with all the corps, with no mention of controlling extra votes, of course it still would have angered some people, but not as many, and the opposition wouldn't have been so intractable.

It's the G8 corps that are trying to divide and conquer, and this compromise tour is not going to satisfy these G8 directors that still want the whole pie, I'm pretty sure. They're just biding their time, trying to build an audience for what they're doing, and seeing what sails. They're keeping one foot in each pool. That isn't right. I wish the other directors had not agreed to it. Unless I missed it, other than arguably the Cavaliers which half-heartedly backed away, the other G8 corps have never renounced the G8 proposal and said the attempted vote and money grab was a mistake, we're sorry, it's off the table. I'm not in a trusting mood.

I will go to G8 shows...I will go to DCI shows...I will go to DCA shows...any shows I am able to attend...makes no difference to me.

I also do give money to a G8 corps already...my old corps, the Cadets.

I will buy souvies based on which ones I like best, as always. My recent purchases span a wide range of corps, some G8 and some not.
