HornTeacher
Or, people at the shows could express their appreciation by bringing the palms of their hands together so as to emit noise upon compression in a rapidly repetitious fashion, with greater appreciation being indicated by greater velocity and resulting in an increased volume being emitted, which might then be detected and comprehended by the performing members as representative of the existence and indeed the extent of appreciation. I know it is a little out there, but it just might work. You little cynical subversive, you. Edited August 26, 2014 by HornTeacher
GUARDLING
But someone at the show could text 2000 of their friends and tell them to also text their vote (even though they are not there). It might work if every ticket had a serial # and it accepted votes only with a valid serial # included in the text (and only one vote per serial #). Even then, the die hard fans and many alumni would always vote for "their" corps no matter what they witnessed at the show. It really would be just a popularity contest affected greatly by WHERE the show happens. Then again, if you tack on a $1 or $2 per vote, you might get the corps on board with no limits whatsoever on how many votes you can make or from where. :) Exactly. and that's what happens at WGI.....it's really not even a popularity contest and far from who's the best , it's who got a ton of friends to vote. GUARDLING
Each phone would only get one vote... And it wouldn't be any kind of popularity contest. The award would be given to the most entertaining show. You don't think that DCI fans would be able to take it with maturity?? No!
oldbandguy
They already allow the fans to vote...it's called the market place. Did you see the line for Bluecoats souvies this year :-)
fsubone
They tried it with the TOC shows during the first year. A certain drum corps that will remain nameless(but from an area known for deep-dish pizza) posted the number to text in on their Twitter and Facebook pages. Can you guess who won the fan portion of that show? The system would be too open to bias and abuse to be practical.
gbass598
Fans don't vote in gymnastics. Fans don't vote in figure skating. Inmates don't get to choose what they eat for breakfast. Fan voting in professional sports for the all star game is a joke because people like Derek Jeter get the sympathy vote because he's going to retire and not because he is the best shortstop in the American League this season. Fan voting on American Idol kept Sanjaya on the show. Those are the reasons fans shouldn't vote.

Thats what happens in WGI also ( most times )..its why I said even the fan Fav. vote didnt tell a thing. BUT those who got people to vote sure do use their bragging title...lol..hilarious. HockeyDad
We don't want fan voting. We prefer it remain a staff popularity contest.
