N.E. Brigand
Mandarins released this photo on Facebook today, of the Terracotta Army: What sort of penalty would a corp take for fielding 8,000 members? Plus horses?
Eleran
What sort of penalty would a corp take for fielding 8,000 members? Well, according to the picture, there will only be 2,015 Mandarins
cf144
What sort of penalty would a corp take for fielding 8,000 members? Plus horses? I think the horses would be fine - as long as they don't leave any . . . ummmmm . . . stuff that stays on the field after the show
1956OPR
The Lambert and Poulenc pieces have not been played by drum corps before, according to CorpsReps. The Porter song was last played 50 years ago. The Debussy and especially the Gershwin selections are perhaps overplayed in drum corps. They are also masterpieces, which can stand revisiting if they are handled well, as they have been before by Phantom. The Saint-Saens symphony has been played three times in the past 25 years. The orchestral version runs more than a half-hour, so there's more than enough material for Regiment to shape into something completely different from what's been done before. As for the theme, what first comes to mind is that Bellbrook H.S. had a pretty little show last fall called "Paris Sketches". A bit restrained for my tastes--I think there were about 30 other Ohio bands whose shows I preferred--but quite well done in its way and second in their class at BoA Grand Nationals. A lot can be done with Paris, that's for sure. Maybe, taking a cue from BD's Fellini show, Regiment will use Godard as their model? 2 ou 3 choses que je sais d’elle, perhaps? The current program information listed on the Regiment's site no longer lists Poulenc's Piano Concerto piece as part of their 2015 Paris show. Don't know why but perhaps eliminating this music will allow Phantom to use more of the Gershwin and/or Debussy and/or Saint-Saens music, which is certainly OK with me. Often corps choose more selections than will actually use. Time constraints of the competitive show, talents of the musicians, and creativity of the design team in light of both visual and music may cause the omission of some numbers in addition to the question of licensing rights. I hope it's a good one. Funny though, they are heading East to Paris by going West to California. Christopher Columbus in search of India, again?
