2016 Uniform Thread

Crown has already broken the uniform mold

They still look like band uniforms with headgear. Someone needs to take off the hats that don't have any purpose and pick a new look every year that actually fits the show idea. Yes, similar to WGI.

They do have a purpose: to make all MMs look the same. Hence the term uniform.

he DM for The Cavaliers has as far back as I remember always had a black velvet hat. I can't imagine the corps proper not wearing white hats.

Let me help you with that.

They were in shakos up through 1975 (guard in black aussies) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdNPCxiunPA

Whole corps went black aussies in 1976 https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=19&v=tjniiV9QWhM

1980 https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=0UTX6Nbrehs

1986 (audio only,.,..but with still pics) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ii4L6hgt2JQ

They went to white aussies in 1987

Why?

No one has explained this ever on DCP other to say 'because I like it" or some such..

Hats not only make the group look uniform but hides the sun from the eyes and the stadium lights from the eyes and protects during harsh weather.

If I recall correctly, the shift in 1976 was instituted when Steve Buglino moved from the staff of the L.I. Kingsmen to the The Cavaliers drill staff. Steve had also been involved with the LI Sunrisers.

Seriously?? You can hardly call what Crown wears a "band uniform." They are the definition of WGI jammies paired with something that is trying too hard to look like a Shako but really just comes off as an oversized hat. I don't think their 2014 "Shako" even had a feather. The only thing "band uniform" about Crown's attire is the "uniform" part. Edited by Cappybara

Yeah, maybe. But for me it's the hat that looks most "traditional". Obviously it not a regular shako, but it definitely hints at one.

Because the uniforms they wear don't fit the show. It would be great to see Cadets ditch the old look completely for something fresh. I applaud them for taking a step and changing the colors and adding the stone look, but they could have gone all the way and ditched the shakos and military look of the jacket. Maybe this is one step towards it. Many I'm missing it, but I've never seen a statue of someone wearing a shako and plume. Put any of these uniforms on a WGI Percussion group and would look so out of place now a-days. At least in WGI, what they wear is an attempt to match the detail of the show, the floor, etc.

There's no Music City Mystique Uniform or Rhythm X uniform so why is it different when it's outside during the summer?

I've never heard anyone ever mention eye protection in all my years of marching. If it's a concern, every drum corps should wear their headgear during the day and definitely during late night ensemble for those extremely bright stadium lights.
