BRASSO
. I wouldn't make it too far on these old drum corps knees! Yes, I hear you. I try to put one foot in front of the other every day... I find its better than putting my foot in my mouth every day. ( 'don't always succeed however in this.... haha ) Edited August 22, 2016 by BRASSO
Jeffe77
Just been catching up to the Boston DCI Staff Coup. My thought is that BAC may be the next in line to be the first time DCI Champ or least they have that goal in mind. The way they got staff is how Star did so in the 80's. BTW, its been this way with kids following the staff. Happen when Tom Float left BD between 90 and 91 with most of the vets leaving BD. When Rennick took over SCV, a good chuck of PR kids followed him to SCV. I can go on and on with examples. It happens. Will be interesting to see how this will play out with Crown and The Cadets. I can see Mapes/Grom leaving Blue Stars and landing either with Crown or Cadets depending where dominoes fall. E3D
What do you think poaching is? It's not opening a caption head position and providing an opportunity for bright young talent somewhere else to "move up". They're taking people at the top of the stack at the top of the activity and offering a boatload of $. What's really sad is when those caption heads bring their staff with them, leaving their former corps dry. I'm a Crown honk, and yes, I'm bitter. Crown is an organization that should be respected on how they built a champion. They worked hard to create a culture that fostered excellence and family and treated their people (staff, volunteers, and members) with respect, and as part of their brand. BAC will be sorely disappointed when they discover that they can't buy that kind of success. Crown will recover. Excellence will find them. Boston has been at this for a while. To be honest back in da day crown is very much like star of indiana = very young corps. We all get your bitter.
2000Cadet
For all the constant happy talk about how scores don't really matter, corps that underscore sure do seem to make quick personnel changes in the offseason... Actually, I think the point was that scores are not the PRIMARY thing that matters. And if a drum corps wants to make a staff change in order to improve, what's the big deal?
palmettomello
Really hoping cadets can pull their guard up, used to be one of the strongest units every year. Haven't been a fan of a CG uniform from them since, ummmmm 2007? They need a power house name to come in that will revive the guard. Where is Rosie Queen or Jennifer Leseth these days? Their work with Crown and SCV, respectably, was phenomenal. Crown, I see this is a creative opportunity for a new drill writer. Please don't spoil it. I think I was the minority here, but I haven't been a fan of May's drill for a few years. I wonder if they will some visual trademarks, like the jazz run block that folds back on itself, the rotating 3D prisms, or the free form park and bark at the end of the openers? Surely they will keep the crown sets. Anyone want to throw some names in the hat for Crown's drill writer?

I think he's been competent, 2014 on I have not really been a big fan, especially 2014 and 2015. 2016 was better, but still kinda eh. It worked, but I can't really recall any specific drill stuff outside of the Crown set. Think he'll be a big step up for Boston though. I'll throw Jamey Thompson in......again. I still think he writes some of the more musical and better flowing stuff out there, he's kinda disappeared from DCI. As far as some more progressive and fresh stuff, I dunno. Don't think we'll ever see Gaines back any time soon. Lots of untapped talent out there in the high school world just begging for a transition to drum corps.

He's been working out with Rocky Balboa so he can kick the snoot out of Happy Gilmore in their scheduled rematch in October.
