Cymbal Lines their Scoring/GE value & why their demise?

Recommended Posts

They are fine for indoors but they don't make sense visually outdoors. They are a very visual instrument and can be distracting. Imagine if 5 baritone players waved their instruments around the majority of a show.

On that thought, bass drum lines should go too. They are always facing in the wrong direction. Imagine if 5 baritone players pointed sideways the majority of a show.

Except that the way the face now is the way the sound from the instruments projects. Facing basses forward is what would be like placing baritones sideways.

The junior corps where I marched... there were times when we wished some of our bari players waved their horns instead of playing them!!!

Pretty simple.

There are 14 people in the front ensemble that can add that color or sound to the ensemble without sacrificing 4 or 5 marching spots on the field.

IMO, I don't see how that would be a sacrifice. Corps max size has gone from 128 to 135 to 150. There are more than enough marching members on the field in the guard, hornline and battery.

i agree. cut the snareline down to 7, basses to 4, and tenors to 2 and you can easily field 4 plates :ninja:

You are a nasty one.

If I didn't know how much you enjoy tweaking drummers, I'd think you are serious.

And seriously delusional.

well there's a point to that madness. just as the drum staff would have a heart attack at that suggestion, so too would the guard staff / brass staff have the same reaction to the suggestion: meh -- just cut some people here or here. everyone is protective of their caption.
