This is more like the Star or the National Enquirer. Perhaps you should be quoting Madonna?

You young guys aren't always appreciative of how we dinos have to not overtax the heart and breathing when viewing some of these programs. Jeff Ream
it all depends on how the message is delivered. Cavies came at it in a humorous way, which worked. Animal Farm, even if aimed at DCI itself, not so much

That makes things rather sticky and also more than a tad unfair if you're going to jump into the chili with something deliberately controversial with what is in effect a captive audience who has trusted to design staff to provide a certain kind of product and vehicle to attempt to gain a certain result. Now, if an organization has a consistent reputation of doing things like this year in and year out and you know what you're likely getting into and want to be there- that's another thing. MikeD
Year 1 of DCI Cadets show was titled "No More War". More abstract in design than our 71 "America, the Brave" Revolutionary War show. Still did the Peace Sign. Passed out a placement-sized poster at shows that showed two young children playing on the left, the same two grown up as boyfriend/girlfriend as the boy was going off to war (both in uniform) in the middle, and on the right the girl )still in uni) sadly placing her hand on a casket. Yes with the Viet Nam war not yet over, the draft lottery still in effect, the nation in turmoil with riots in some places.....there was a huge cloud of depression over the nation. Some chose the various drugs of escapism to hide from it. Some faced it head on and called it what it was: a tragedy. The reality and its culture is partially what made the experiment of DCI a more amazing thing as drum corps looked to hope, possibility, and celebrating the talent of youth. As most know, that is the CG Captain of the Blue Stars in the center of the photo with the white uni.
