I'll be the train conductor as I ride the Stars train by myself  to finals since it seems like most are jumping off. The END crowns the work, not the beginning.

I won't be giving up my seat on that train. I remain a Stars fan and supporter, even when some of their show choices have been, uh, questionable.

Don't fall for the fallacy that scores this year are comparable to scores last year. It's all about the spreads to the corps in front of and behind them, and Stars this year are lagging in those spreads compared to 2016. Unless they've made a MASSIVE overhaul from what I saw in the theaters, their design is lacking compared to last year.

So their first show of the season is the blandest the show will be. People say for every other corps you can't judge the show design off the first show so why can you for them?  When was the last time they competed with a group near their finals placement last year? And comparing spreads instead of scores last year on July 10th (Madison was more out west at this time) Madison beat them in GE by almost a point and we know how the season ended. It's early July give the show some time to develop before you say awful design.

All numbers found at fromthepressbox if you want to check them out.

Overall on July 7th of last year Stars were in 12th with a 67.4 and lost to Madison on that head to head on July 10th.  Other fun facts crossmen was in 9th at this point and Boston 11th.

I said this on another thread before this season started. I have learned that it doesn't matter how late a camp starts, or how clean a corps comes out of the gate. What really seems to matter is how good of a design the corps has put together to put in the field. If they do that by the end of the season that corps should be pleased from a competitive standpoint on the field.

Blue Stars show has been generating no GE since first show..   Putting in a new ending is not going to solve the problems.  Nothing innovative about the Blue Stars show they are the last of the old school corps.   Unless they can come up with a way to generate GE and improve their Visual scores it is going to be a long season.  Saturday is going to be an important show for Blue Stars, Madison, Crossmen and Phantom.   Someone may emerge as the clear leader of the pack.

Well, while I don't think the Blue Stars show this year is as well designed as last year (I loved that show), I see them in the 10-12 group with Madison and Regiment come finals. Crossmen? I think they are going to miss finals this year. Just kidding - I think they are going to surprise people BIG TIME. They have such a fantastic show design wise, and appear to be on track execution wise. I think they are the corps of these 4 to watch.

One of the biggest issues the Blue Stars have is stringing together successful seasons. Last year's show was fantastic! They had the potential to place 7th, should have placed 8th, and ended up in 9th. This year's show is so-so; definitely finals worthy but not in the middle tier of the top 12. Talented corps with a dull show.

Agreed (almost). I think they should have placed 7th last year. That show was so fantastic in every way.

I think BS are going to do well this year and will end up 9th or 10th. Their guard, drum line and hornline are the strongest they have had in a while and as the make the flow and story more cohesive and clean, they will get the credit. You'll see.......

Multiple responses in 1.

Last year on 7/6 their GE scores were 13.2 11.8 with a final score of 67.4 and yesterday was 13.8 14.3 with a final score of 71.8.  So those saying it's a failed design is actually out doing the design that they said was superb.  Now this is just my observation and opinion which normally means squat here but last year they cane out with a skeleton and layered themes and more mid July to the end of the season.  What happened was bigger jumps after mid July than late June early July. This reminds me of a John Mapes interview  (WGI related) where he said there are 2 ways to finish a show, east coast and West coast.  East coast was to come out with a developed show that wasn't finished and West coast was to come out with a finished show and then develop. So I believe that they influenced the way the show progresses over the season. I'll be the train conductor as I ride the Stars train by myself  to finals since it seems like most are jumping off. The END crowns the work, not the beginning.

For some reason show always autocorrect to shoe on this page.

I'm sorry, but you cannot compare scores from different years. Not even remotely. Also, if you're going to throw in past years as a reference, then you need to throw in 2015 where they were passed up in July, finishing 11th place. They beat Madison that year by as much as 2.3 mid-season and lost to them by 3.6 at finals. If you would have told me the reverse would have happened last year, I wouldn't believe you, and it did. Prior years don't mean diddly.

I doesn't matter what they scored last year, it matters where they are fitting in placement wise this year, which right now looks to be in the 10-12th place range. Is it a failed design? No. But is it a design on the level of last years design? No. They are a good corps, and I expect them to retain their finalist status, but I feel those that think they are going to place as well, or better, than last year are going to be disappointed.
