The corps is dressed in jazz type attire; the props fit a jazz theme; the show is called Session 44; the brass is playing jazz arranged music; the guard is performing jazz type stuff; and the singer sounds like a singer in a smoked filled room. A percussion judge better be expecting jazz styled playing. You would think .... but this is drum corps. And (with apologies to BD and Bluecoats) no one has done Jazz like this before. I am not qualified to judge percussion (or brass or CG or anything else), but I hope that Bluecoats can communicate what they are attempting. Now, if they do not achieve it, they should not be rewarded. And I'm sure that being rewarded is not what they are about. They want to present the best show possible, they will lay all their chips on the table win or lose ... and be happy about it.

These corps take scores seriously, they check what other corps are getting elsewhere, but they still give out the PC talk. The Bluecoats should be concerned if percussion judges have no clue what is considered jazz percussion. Edited July 8, 2018 by Ghost

I'd guess you are more concerned than they are. And , maybe I'm wrong.

But as you're told so often by the old, sometimes wise, Canadian philosopher........ "the work just ain't going to change!!!"

Just for clarity.

BD didn't water down the bopster either but even though Bluecoats sounded fantastic! I really dislike singing in drum corps but the† young lady was perfect. What a voice. Best of all though she carried herself like a member of the ensemble instead of a "lead singer" from another show last year. Also BDB did portions of it in 2014 which I still feel is their best ever show do date.

chaddyt
Thought this show would start to plateau a bit, but it looks as though I was a bit off on that one. The overall design is really coming together. Would like to see a bit more from the drill, but that seems to be where DCI is trending lately. Wasn't overly wowed in the theater at the beginning of the season, but this is definitely growing on me.
