I would personally rebrand it ("Music is Cool" maybe worked in 1988) and there's some value there - it shouldn't be a revenue engine - it should be a "relationship engine" IMO

Maybe "Music is Warm"?    :lle:

How about "Cadets Experience Camp" or a million other possibilities of something less corny than "Music is Cool" >> a cool brand such as"System Blue"

You could even do one for middle school age students branded for them, and then one for HS age target - 2 different brands

The alumni that I see are here on DCP and FB which is why I posted what I did. When people start talking about contending next year I kinda roll my eyes. Not saying that they couldn't catch lightning in a bottle but that will be hard when you have a $300K hole to dig out of.

If the alumni where as "united" as you say I guess I question why GH survived as long as he did as director. If I had to guess it was that the alumni were happy with the competitive results more than having a sound organization run by a mentally stable person. That it took the allegations that came out to get the alumni to act on GH is something I find unbelievable. He should have been escorted out the door long ago..... IMHO of course and I'm sure people on here will disagree. The guy was a known bad person even without the allegations of rape and sexual assault and a large chunck of the alumni IMHO were the ones that fostered his ability to prosper.

I'm very happy to see things changed this year. I can't say that I'm happy it took so long for the organization and the alumni as a whole to act.

Wellllll, alumni being "united" behind the Cadets is different than the alumni being "united" around removing GH.  I for one was shocked in April; I hadn't heard anything beforehand other than bad office management practices.  Besides, I try to see the best of people when I don't know them well.

I treasured my time with the Cadets and the reports out of YEA about poor office management didn't really take away from how inspired I was over that summer, and he had a lot to do with that.  Their competitive placements have little to do with my support of the corps.  So, I'm sad to hear that you think it was my job as an alumnus to "act", when really the ones who were ultimately responsible for the corps' operation were the board of directors.  I suppose we could've pushed them more, but again, I personally had no idea it was as bad as it was, and therefore not in a position to say or do anything concerning the dismissal of the man.

the cash flow "shortfall" is not the same thing as a debt - or an emergency need

in the video it was described as manageable and would be addressed through a combination of cutting expenses and increasing revenue

seems like a realistic approach

reportedly USB is now back up to the number of 2017 bands - if not a few more

the pricing structure for the circuit is a concern - as is YEA pricing structure for DCI/DCA shows

Music is Cool has a terrible reputation - get a tshirt and watch us practice, join in a drum circle = not exactly a life changing afternoon

I would personally rebrand it ("Music is Cool" maybe worked in 1988) and there's some value there - it shouldn't be a revenue engine - it should be a "relationship engine" IMO

If I were in charge of the whole thing - I would probably move the Cadets to either MD or NOVA - leave C2 in Allentown (or Harrisburg) and have a couple smaller offices rather than 1 larger one - it would allow better networking and position YEA in a much more wealthy community (similar to Boston hint hint)

I'd also consider rebranding "YEA!" itself - PEAK Youth - or something like that...

All JMO

PS.....the indoor circuit has been a money loser from pretty much day 1. In their region you have TIA, CBA, KIDA, MAPS, MAIN, and whatever the NE circuits are. I am sure I am missing some

no they werent happy. But the organization was set up in such a way that one person held all of the power. Hostile takeovers were futile, because the board were hand picked sycophants

The matter of Cadets/YEA moving their operations from Allentown to some other region interests me.  First of all, I live here (outside the city limits) and have some knowledge of how things work around here. I am not aware of any local corporate or community financial support going to the Cadets/YEA operation. Maybe something specific is listed on a financial statement I am not privy to. There are at least a half dozen large giving programs that provide press releases indicating recipients. I've just never seen Cadets/YEA listed as beneficiary.

The downtown office space is in a building that once housed a large advertising company (Musselman) that closed leaving the space empty for some time. Perhaps, the rental there is very small, or even donated. From what I've been told, Cadets are not in good standing with the concert hall across the street. As far as I can tell, neither Cadets/Cadets2 conducts practices at any Allentown School District facilities anymore.

The question I have is, what unique benefits are found in Allentown that can't be met, or exceeded elsewhere?
