Not to state the obvious but flights were not cancelled and there were nonetheless far fewer American cases of Ebola than there are of the new coronavirus.

(Also, coronaviruses, which include this new strain as well as SARS and MERS, are in a different family than influenza.)

It’s over hyped - get back to me in 2-3 weeks.

Obviously I hope you're right --and I want to help make you right, which is why I keep urging people to wash their hands-- but the fact remains that this outbreak has already killed 25% as many people, in three months, as died from Ebola over the three-year period of the outbreak mentioned above.

So what is “the media” saying that is not the truth.... craps hitting the fan all over and it’s being reported *shrug*

3700 people die a day in car accidents. Any further questions?

I thought Ebola was way overhyped also. Never suggested otherwise.

We should do more to save those lives too.

Absolutely. And hand washing is huge with this one! We actually agree

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen the media so irresponsibly over hype something to this extent EVER. How ridiculous!

And I am, frankly, SHOCKED at the number of people I know who are falling for the hype as if it's gospel.

Shameful on the media's part.

62 cases in the US.

We're hyper-clean in our house.  Our kids are taught about clean hands and snotty noses.

There is ZERO evidence that this strain of flu even challenges "OUR" flu (the "American" strain) for people affected, let alone deaths.

There's something else that's driving this pandemic.

Unfortunately, it might cost us the drum corps season.
