Does no WGI = no DCI for 2021 (Hypothetical)?

I think the major problem is sheer number of available rooms near the performance venue.  6 corps of 100 rooms each is not a room number usually available at a typical "local" show.

But, of course, not many local venues can contract every school in the district for corps housing (like we did!)

Shorter season + small uptick in member costs = hotel rooms for all.  But some may have to drive farther to get to the venue.

EDIT:  Ummm, rehearsal sites are a bit of a problem...

It might be that local shows will have to come back later? It is possible to use vacant lots for rehearsal sites and also just a thought. Usually the contest site has large parking areas and fields. You could use that as rehearsal location and have a rolling schedule for the corps to use the field from the parking lots?

Parents have no power against the teachers unions and lawyers. And I don't believe anyone is send the kids back at all costs...that is media spin. However, there are many who understand the significance of getting our children back to school...minus the indoctrination.

Ironically, this whole dynamic might change, too, thanks to Covid.

The more mainstream education proclaims "Don't monitor your children when they are remote learning!", the more parents are taking home-schooling more seriously.  And "...the money follows the kid..." is gaining support as well.

The funding of expensive stadiums on expensive campuses could be over in the high school realm.

Drum corps might be playing in wood-bleacher stadiums again, after all!

His corps walked away from DCI.

Yes, the corps he was financially supporting walked away.

And that removed the validity of what he did to get them to that point?

Don't think so.

"Sounds crazy, might work" has made heros out of some with vision and guts (and, in Cook's words, money which one wants to thrown "down a hole in the ground"), too.

Drum corps needs some of that chutzpah about now.

Maybe they got bored? But maybe just maybe they had a vision to bring something a little different to the fine arts community? They created something to bring the DCI concept to another audience. You know all of that already right?

I’m done here. This sounds too close to the Goober on another SM site who argued if you are asymptotic then you can’t give Coronavirus to others.

Thinking about it this sounded like I was slamming Garfield only and not meant that way. Just tired of the “medical expertise” being passed around. Two years ago it was “experts” saying what sexual abuse and harassment victims should do. Now it’s how people should deal with CV and who should worry about catching it. Bit about young people shouldn’t worry as much because they are not “high risk” is bizarre. High risk means risk of dying and not risk of catching. Just sounds like young people should not worry if they catch it.

Maybe check in after this is over
