charleschuchuta
Wouldn't that be really trippy if that happened to Phantom this year at finals? Definite "woah" moment for sure.
Jared_mello
2004 crossmen rifle drop that left the young lady stuck in the horns drill <{POST_SNAPBACK}> YEAH, definitely. Forgot about that one. Really interesting story about Cavies '87, thanks for explaining it.
Guest DrumCorpFan
Didn't the baton twirling soloist for the Cadets drop at finals last year?
Guest DrumCorpFan
Ah, here's one nobody's mentioned... The judge who dropped the scores for that night's competition (Dekalb 3-4 years ago) while the corps were competing. I forgot what corps the marching member was from who picked it up was. They tried to dismiss it as the judge just wanted to make sure the scores were higher than the night before, and even if that is true...it's a big mess up. Was that '01 or '02? I remember hearing about it on the bus later, but over the years I dismissed it as some kind of rumor. Since it's apparently not, though...details? Jeff Ream
ah the infamous yellow sheet of paper. 99 or 00 wasn't it?
Guest DrumCorpFan
The judge dropped it while a corps was warming up, if I remember correctly. It had scores for the first few corps, then point spreads for the corps that were competing later.
bd5times
One of the contra players played the first note of that year's closer, Holsinger's Liturgical Dances, one full count early in the fullest of fortes. Everyone heard it... the audience, the corps, EVERYONE. We were deflated, distracted and totally knocked off our game. We struggled to the end of the show and slinked off the field, trying to pretend that what had just happened, did not. This made me laugh! This happened to the 81 Blue Devils.....but with different results. The 81 show started off with the horn line powering punching the first note directly into the stands while standing on the front sideline. POW! We had 8 counts of a cymbal ride before the power punch. 4 counts before the POW, a euphonium player would say "Good luck" to the contra next to him and then POW! Well....at Louisville, the "Good luck" came a couple beats early, followed by a very loud contra doing the power punch POW! All by himself. The effect of this was quite different from the Cavies response you portrayed. Granted, we may have had a different mindset since we really did not have any competition at that show. It didn't effect our performance or mindset. The contra player certainly caught a lot of crap from the hornline on the bus ride that night. After that....we forgot about it. We knew it was a freak occurance.... The 82 season, at the same show, I have video of the Blue Devils starting the opener......followed by the announcer "Is the corps ready"....right in the middle of TO. I can vividly recall that moment thinking "CRAP!" We continued on, hyping on the DM's mistake and belted out a homerun of a performance. We got a perfect score in GE brass that night. Two weeks before DCI.....
DCIAGEOUT
The infamous piece of paper was 2001 and a member from southwind found it. If I remember right, the year after, the football team tackled Capital Regiment's hornline.
bd5times
...and that piece of paper contained scores from a previous show....not the current, yet to scored, show. Legends have grown.
