Crossmen

I can understand your frustration. I don't know what will happen or where they will eventually wind up in the rankings come August. I do feel very very confident, however, that when it's all said and done, this show and this corps will be MUCH better than the 2005 corps. What that means competitively depends on a lot of other things.

Also, I can think of many Crossmen shows that did not have a Cross in the drill. If memory serves, 1999, 1998, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1993, 1992, 1990 to name a few. Some really great shows in there. :)

In '90, the Cross was the design on our Caravan flags. Not in the drill, but it was on the field.

I haven't seen the corps since Chesapeake, VA, but as a former marching member, soprano soloist, 2000 and 2001 horn sergeant, 2000 Crossmen of the year and 1999, 2001 Distinguished Member, I couldn't be more proud of the corps. I saw the same fight in the members as I did when I marched...They want to do well, and they will get things right.

I felt more in tune with the Crossmen family than I ever have when I watched them rehearse. I saw kids in tears after the first run-thru. I watched a member with shin splints finish the show, fighting off the pain. There was no goofing around, just plain old rehearsing with purpose. And it will pay off in the end.

To the original poster, drum corps teaches you more than tradition, family, and "hard work pays off." It also teaches you that there is something out there bigger than yourself. All we can do is root for our former corps and provide any help we can. Being upset about the scores and placements doesn't fix the problem...neither does motivating through a DCP post. Write them a check...wash dishes...cook a meal...bring gatorade...do someone's laundry...thank a volunteer for your experience...turn in your resume and offer to teach...this is where your passion should be directed!

Best thing they could do for themselves next year is to commit to having the show ready to compete by the second week in June, right when PR, Bluecoats, Glassmen, and Cavies start their seasons.

I seem to recall Hopkins discussing this in his blog last year. I think it's more a function of finances than anything else. Then, when they DID come out, they had some weather cancellations.

Driving those buses and semis around the country for an extra week or 10 days adds up to some serious cash for a corps on a tight budget. Sad to say but I wouldn't be surpried in the age of $70/bbl oil, that might become closer to the norm with other corps, too.

C'mon, lets be honest here, its the incense the hornline is breathing in during warmup. (Sorry, I just think this is really weird, yet sooooo cool all at the same time.)

For the record, I rank Crossmen up there in coolness with Scouts and PR. Just wanted to state that for all to know.

GO BONES!!!

No doubt they will be better. Of course, it is looking like the "lower and middle tiers" of div 1 are, as a whole, getting better each consecutive year too.

Yes, I know that not all Crossmen shows have had a cross in the drill. But the past several years there has been one, and as a fan I have come to expect it. It is much like the Vanguard yell to me, without it there just seems to be a little something missing. Granted, the darkhorse yell this year is pretty sweet.

GO BONES

I believe that Crossmen will be just fine this year.

I think the Crossmen have a great show this year. They are much better than they were last year, so it seems they are in fact doing the right things. If they make finals, I'll be happy. If they don't, I'll be happy too. Why? Because they have a great show, they are performing it very well, and I know they'll give me a great show to remember for years to come. That's more important to me than where they ultimately place.

As a former member of Crossmen, I am saddened when I look at the rankings... Come on Crossmen... why are you staying stagnent when ALL the corps are moving up... there are 15 corps that are better right now... i have not seen the show as of yet, but enough is enough... its time for the music and visual people make some changes... thats obviously the only way they can get the judges to like the show... i guess no amount of cleaning will help it... sucks that the Crossmen will be out of finals for another year... in this day in age where people corps hop to better groups, i hope the members understand that the XMen probably wont make finals for another couple years. I think there is a rebuilding that will take a while... Like what happened in the 80s... there were out of finals for a good 6 years, but then they were in it for 16 straight years... so, stick with your corps...

You want to know what really sucks??? You being so negative about the corps you marched for. They must be really proud of you.

The only thing that really has me in a fit right now is that there is no cross in the show. Maybe the staff is waiting for later to put it in, but as of yet there is no cross. (and no there isn't one in the new closer drill either) :(

Go BONES!

From what I was told (by one of the instructors), the guard uniform has a cross in it.
