Snapettes Mom
I beg to differ. Higher fuel prices will make things a bit more smaller than regional. How about local? Tours won't go any farther than 50 miles at best. Imports will be the way of the past. Possibly having Championships once every three or four years and all age will be the rage. If not tour fees will rise to $7,500 to $12,500 per member. Super sized corporate sponsorship will be the only saving grace. ie. The Nike Blue Devils, The Blue Star Bucks, The William Sonoma Glassmen, Disneys Cavaliers, Google Corps, etc. IMHO Mom
bawker
the amp battle is only over if you quit :( It's over...as if we really ever had a dog in the race to begin with. No one fan...or any group of fans... will be able to challenge the DCI BoD. After the petition presentation, there was plenty of time for a director/board member to follow up on things, and try to effect change. No one did, and no one will. Electronics will come next, and you can count on it. Give that another 6-8 years. The only saving grace here is is that no one really wants woodwinds on the field; so if you're a fan, that small bit of consolation will have to do for now. Two hundred dollars is alarmist speculation. If that happens...which would imply either a major war starting... or escalation of conflict across the Middle East...I think we may have to worry a bit more about the economic well being of most of the civilized world, rather than some drum corps tours. The resultant increase on good and services that rely on oil-based transport will make it so what happens in DCI/DCA is the least of our worries. However, if gas prices (and diesel) do continue to rise modestly (as they have), scaling back touring to a regional model is a good alternative to keep the flavor of "touring", while keeping the cost down overall. Snapettes Mom
How long ago was a barrel of oil $35. Look at the charts and where they are pointing. Oil usally spikes at the end of an economic cycle. Hrm? China is hoarding all the oil they can with a recently finished storage faciliy they have been building the last five years. It's the largest in the world my many, many times. They plan to sell and export oil to India and the U.S. Their tanker production rivals the biggest shipyards. Wonder why? The Middle East is blowing smoke about how much reserves they have. They don't know. The only synthetic oil comes from one single producer in South Africa. That's not gonna hold the fort down. I hope is DCI is doing more than just creating a buying club on fuel contracts. This WILL change things dramtically if preparations are not worked on. Thoughts?
