Garfield 85.

YES! MY MAN TOMMY! YOU BEAT ME TO IT!

I was scrolling through all the 84 Garfields and 96 Phantoms, thinking "that's too obvious. That's what DCI would want everyone to say." :P

After some brief soul searching, I just couldn't deny the fact that the 1985 Garfield Cadets put the greatest, most innovative show ever to play on a football field before or since.

Look it up, people.

Vote to Phantom Regiment 96

There were better shows perhaps as far as being revolutionary, appealing to judges, preformed cleanly etc… but personally, PR 96 is one of the most enjoyable shows, the music is what makes it, very listenable. I also like the lack of flash and trendiness, keeps it from looking too dated.

Hm: Madison 88, Blue Devils 80/86, Santa Clara 99/81, Cadets 90 /87 and Cavies 2000

Well, this is another tough one, just like the 2nd and 3rd place voting. As always, we are really talking about different eras, so it is difficult to compare apples to oranges.

In the 70s I would say these were the best all time champions:

- 1974 Santa Clara Vanguard

- 1975 Madison Scouts

- 1976 Blue Devils

- 1979 Blue Devils

The winner of this decade is 1975 Madison Scouts. They were the definition of power, presence, precision, and what a fabulous show.

HM: Blue Devils 1979

In the 1980s it was:

- 1982 Blue Devils

- 1983 Garfield Cadets

- 1984 Garfield Cadets

- 1986 Blue Devils

- 1987 Garfield Cadets

- 1989 Santa Clara Vanguard

The winner of this decade is: Garfield Cadets 1984. Perhaps the standard for ALL shows. Maybe the best ever. In the 90s the drum corps directors all voted this show as the quintessential drum corps show. HM: Garfield 1987 and BD 1982

In the 1990s it was:

- 1991 Star of Indiana

- 1993 Cadets

- 1994 Blue Devils

- 1997 Blue Devils

- 1999 Blue Devils (and not SCV because I did not agree with the tie, although I loved their show)

And the winner of the 90s is: A tie.......1991 Star of Indiana and 1994 Blue Devils. Since we did have two ties in the 1990s, I thought it only fitting to bring both along for the ride into finals, and both deserve it. HM: BD 1997

In the 2000s it has been:

- 2000 Cadets and 2000 Cavaliers (although I though Maroon won)

- 2002 Cavaliers - mainly for its visual beauty and sophistication, but musically this show did nothing for me

- 2003 Blue Devils

- 2005 Cadets

- 2006 Cavaliers

And the winner of the 2000s is: another tie :).......... 2000 Cadets and 2002 Cavaliers. HM: BD 2003

So in the finale round is:

1975 Madison

1984 Garfield Cadets

1991 Star of Indiana

1994 Blue Devils

2000 Cadets

2002 Cavaliers

These are some pretty good shows, but...........the winner is:

1984 Garfield Cadets

As was already mentioned, most of you young folks will just not know how good this show was, but it WAS and event. They were like rock stars that summer, and the whole world stopped when they took the field. It took what they did in 1983 and smoked it. Yes, it was a different era, and that always makes this tough, but as much as I like the other choices, and some of the popular ones I have seen on this board, like Phantom 96, SCV 89, Cavaliers 1992, and others, none of those shows do for me what 1984 Garfield did. But hey, I am a dino. :)

Im shocked !!

Not only about the one vote only for 1982 Blue Devils, but 1983 Garfield has NO votes ???

Where are all the votes for 1986 Blue Devils ??

1987 Garfield ???

...ugh, Im a dinosaur.

~G~

No, you're not the only dinosaur. Count me in as one. Please note my extremely close choices that I posted earlier (a portion of which is shown below). '82 Devils were and are just awesome! Outstanding musical selections, professional-grade musicianship, great drill, and everything executed near flawlessly!

My even shorter list boiled down to:

3rd - 2002. The Cavaliers

2nd - 1982. Blue Devils

And in first place, which is really........... just first place: The 1984 Garfield Cadets
