TerriTroop Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 From an email I received from DCI.org: Hosted for more than 10 years at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, Drum Corps International will take its popular Southwestern Championship event outdoors for 2010, featuring 24 corps over two days of competition on Saturday, July 24 and Sunday, July 25. Moving the event from the Alamodome, which has been a fan-favorite fixture on the annual DCI Tour since 1999, was necessary after an unanticipated scheduling conflict with the facility was confirmed at the beginning of March. DCI will move the event to Judson Independent School District’s D.W. Rutledge Stadium located just northeast of San Antonio in Converse, Texas. “While we are looking forward to returning to the Alamodome in 2011, we’re eagerly anticipating the new format and location of this summer’s Southwestern Championship,” said DCI Director of Events Susan Kuehnhold. “With incredible support coming from local school districts and music programs, we’re working to ensure a great experience for fans new and old.” Twenty-two of 23 World Class corps will perform over the two-day competition which will also feature special appearances by the Open Class Vanguard Cadets on Saturday and San Antonio’s own Revolution on Sunday. Lineups include: Saturday, July 24 Blue Devils Santa Clara Vanguard Phantom Regiment Blue Stars Blue Knights Troopers Glassmen Cascades Pioneer Pacific Crest Mandarins The Academy Vanguard Cadets Sunday, July 25 Carolina Crown The Cadets Bluecoats The Cavaliers Madison Scouts Crossmen Spirit Boston Crusaders Colts Teal Sound The Individual & Ensemble Competition for World Class corps, historically scheduled for the week of the DCI World Championships, will still take place for the first time ever in San Antonio. To allow all corps the opportunity to participate, performers will be split over two-day days coinciding with the Southwestern Championship events. The venue for the Individual & Ensemble Competition is still to be confirmed. Individual-night tickets for the Southwestern Championship events will go on sale beginning Wednesday, March 31, at 11 a.m. ET. Tickets will range in price from $25 to $45, with $20 seats available to groups of 20 or more. Individual & Ensemble Competition performances will be free and open to the public. Quote

AnaheimAlumni Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Can you say really, Really, REALLY frigging HOT! Quote
geluf Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 As I said in another thread, I think I'll stay in Houston this year. The Berry Center here in Houston is a much better venue, plus I can stay at home. When it returns to the Alamodome next year, I'll head back out. Quote
chambana Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) Bill Miller's is going to hate this. Edit: After further review, I didn't realize how many of them there were. My only experience seeing a Bill Miller BBQ was at the dome. Funny how that happens. Edited March 17, 2010 by chambana Quote
MikeN Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I'm not going this year - I can't make both days, and the heat will be a killer. (Not really DCI's fault, though - the Cowboys trump everything else down here.) Mike Quote

However, I still say they should move the SW Regional to the 4th largest city in the country and have the show at Reliant! You know, we're gonna have to meet up one of these days, Brandon! Quote
lilbugleboy Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 As many former marchers as we have on DCP I find it ironic that people are complaining about the heat while WATCHING the performances. If we can stick out through several days of rehearsal in Texas I am fully confident that you'll survive a few hours on your rear ends. Quote
