  2. Yah 2014 was a great show. I loved it when they pulled out the classic uniforms on the racks at finals for the ending. That show still gets me every time at the end. The build up to the star formation, then the gentle tag with the 50, the couple moving into their new home, and the uniforms on the rack.
  3. Today
  4. Though this is not the first time Son Lux’s music will be performed on the drum corps field, this is the first selection the Bluecoats will perform as part of their two year partnership with the band. This does, however, appear to be the first time a drum corps will perform the music of Boston. https://medi-nerd.com/2024/04/28/bluecoats-announce-2024-musical-selections/
  5. I remember that. There's no way GH ran that idea by any of the design team and they were like "yeah, let's go with that." 🫠 Unfortunately, Madison can use this little mini blunder as an excuse to hold off on announcing next year's show.
  6. At least they’re changing the theme now. Not like Stoned, Awakening, Statues Awakening, then back to Awakening. 😂
  7. I've got one: Children of the Neon Bamboo. It's not about drumming per say, but it's about music, and has an awesome concert scene where the drummer really takes over and it's accurately and artistically described. If you need some motivation or just a good read, you should check it out. CHildrenoftheneonbamboo.com Children of the Neon Bamboo: B. Glynn Kimmey: 9798988054115: Amazon.com: Movies & TV
  8. So...evidently the design team had a change of heart. Totally different show announced just now on social media. "The Madison Scouts present their 2024 production titled "Mosaic" featuring the music White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane), Momento Magico (Youn Sun Nah & Ulf Wakenius), Egyptian Danza (Al DeMiola), Man on Fire (Harry Gregson-Williams), Unholy (Sam Smith) and Sati (Salim & Sulaiman Merchant)." Update: I’m an idiot. Not at all a completely different rep but it would appear that the theme changed.
  9. We had the throwdown between Crossmen and Blue Knights with Fly to Paradise in 2015. Crossmen arranged more to the original with vocals and the light airy feel while BK put it into the closer and gave it a more dark feel. Both were fantastic.
  10. I think Blue Stars go back to the 60’s. They were second at the first DCI. I looked it up: The Blue Stars, 2008 The Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in 1964 by Frank Van Voorhis and David Dummer.
  11. Insanity. I also didn’t realize Blue Stars go back that far.
  12. These selections and the video graphics give the impression that this show will be a bit of a callback to the kind of stuff they were doing pre-2018, and I'm 100% here for it. I can't wait to see what Thrower and Rarick will cook up from these tracks. It's also nice to see them release the repertoire list. I'm sure I'm not the only one that remembers they actually announced their selections ahead of time in 2016, 17, and 18. They just kept the title/theme under wraps until opening night. They stopped announcing repertoire in 2019 because the music gave away the theme of the show. And technically, every year since then the show theme has been present in the music selections themselves. 2022 - the whole show was based around Taming the Dragon by Brad Mehldau, and 2023 - The Garden of Love by Jacob TV.
  13. They’re all kaput except for Cavies and Blue Stars. And Hurcs.
  14. Good grief. I didn’t realize that many played it. I’ve never heard of most of these groups.
  15. 1979 Corps that played CoS: North Star Blue Stars Cavaliers Garfield Cadets Bengal Lancers Eye-Openers Buckeye State Caballeros Bleu Raiders Sundowners Rhode Island Matadors Wind Gap Blue Eagles Connecticut Hurricanes Source: DCX Note - there were many small Corps back then that didn’t make it to the DCX database every year. So there may well be additional Corps who played it.
  16. As BD, BC, & Mandarins have an Agape throw down, the Troopers enter the discussion with House of the Rising Sun, featuring a Johnny Cash-esque vocalist.
  17. He waited to compose the closer until the rest of the show was “done”. So he’s able to incorporate the rest of the show (musically and conceptually) into his original piece. So far he’s said the piece is so loud it hurts when wearing earbuds. Good starting point if you ask me!
  18. Just got confirmation. Agape will be the 2024 ballad for Mandarins.
  19. Start out playing Agape and then all of a sudden … da da dada da da da…
  20. I predict at least one rainout in Ohio on my schedule this season but not Canton.
