  1. Don, My twin..... (We're all family here) When I was in the hospital after my 1985 Bridgeport "tree adventure".... Only family was allowed to see me the next day. Milt told the nurse he was my birth brother and she let him in to see me.... (I was THAT bruised that the nurse thought we WERE birth brothers. )

  3. Hey Don - Count your chickens buddy.. How do you think I feel - being from the other end of the world with most of the folks on these pages? I certainly enjoy putting faces to the names I've only heard about..Nanci wanted me to post some 'legends' from my part of the world, but I don't have enough old pictures. I'm just grateful to jump in here on occasion to see photos of true drum corps legends, even if I'm half a continent away.. Part of my continuing education - from the historical (and sometimes hysterical ) point of view. And - since we BOTH shared that magical night at Horlick in '72 - I suspect you might cut me a bit of slack.. Pat

  4. "Clowning With a Clown": Picture was from the 1964 Barnum Festival Parade (Following the Parade of Champions which BTW the corps pictured here won), taken by none other than Moe Knox at Bridgeport's Seaside Park and appeared in Drum Corps News. That's all for now. Elphaba WWW

  5. Milt Fitzgerald. Sunrisers... Caballeros (in 1993, a year Sun didn't field a corps) ... Skyliners Alumni.... and one of the best people in the entire activity.

  6. Good point on false positive first impressions Brasso. We had a guy show up to our corps one night with a Cabs jacket when we were trying to break top 10. Thought it was great as he talked the talk but after he disappeared a few weeks later we wondered if he was Cabs material why did he want to join us so bad..... if the jacket was his... and did we got our horn back. LOL - DC first impressions helped me break up with my first girlfriend. She met one of our tymp players who had a nickname of "Wolfie" cuz he looked like a shaggy version of the Wolfman. Scary ### looking guy who would give you the shirt off his back. She didn't like him.... I told her he acted more Christian than her "My beliefs are better than yours friends".... and I was counting the days until we would go to colleges 250 miles apart. Thanks for starting this out guys.....

  7. Have to admit to being a little nervous about Horlick... hope it's the name of a place... (was out of the country on gov't business in '72)

  8. Well, there are certainly still amazing, ear-pinning, balls-to-wall power even if a small percentage of the performers are amplified. I mean, Metallica is still loud as hll, even if they are cranking up their amps. Also, your assertion describes a fairly small portion of a fifteen minute drum corps show: really loud impact moments are cool, but there are MANY other parts of the show. But I guess if you're trying to make a very thinly veiled (and super vague) point about being anti-electronics...

  10. Please Read Before You Post If you *know* who it is.... please wait a while (not everyone is on here all day or even daily for that matter) If there have been no Guesses..........Then give a *challenging* hint. When giving hints on these try to be creative and just dangle the tiniest tidbit. Make people really think / work on it. Then wait it out a while before tossing another tiny vague tidbit... C'mon we've got to make these last a little longer. PLEASE?? Also, any comments made MUST be made in good taste... this is a fun loving thread... not a revenge match. Please spew your venom elsewhere. Please submit any questions and / or pics in their full size (preferably JPG format), with full description - names, Corps, Stadium, Year... etc. to: The *Guess Who* Mailbox Thanx in advance! All that said and out of the way.. Guess Who # 509 ? http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7342/12177834916_cc80033cfa_o.jpg

  15. This may be the show that can do it for them. Not saying it will, but so far the indications are that it definitely has the potential!

  17. Any time I see "Blue Coats" listed, I just laugh because I'm guessing that there may be some "it's Bluecoats" comments coming soon after. Also, Cavies in 9th would be their worst placement since 1983. Madison in 5th would be their BEST placement since 1997. The rest of the predictions seem plausible. Would be interesting to see Madison in 5th again though...

  19. Depending on the drill writing and drumlin, I think Crossmen could move back into the Top 12. Take nothing away from the other groups around them (Troopers, Spirit, Blue Stars), just call me a bit of an optimistic homer.

  20. My vote goes to the Boston Crusaders for the most improved Corps during the course of the 2013 summer season. They finished 6th out of 6 Corps on June 22nd ( behind Spirit, and more than a couple of points behind Cavaliers ) and were ranked 14th the first week on DCP Rankings. They trailed Cavs, Madison, BK, for much of the season. But they wound up 8th, just a mere tenth behind the Cavaliers at Finals for 7th. They really came on strong to finish their season well and breaking into the 90's. As for the most improved Corps year over end ( 2013 from 2012 ), that honor seems to go to The Troopers, imo. In an age when its difficult to move up more than 2 placement positions from one year to the next, The Troopers went from 18th in 2013 to 13th in 2012, and came within less than 2 tenths of shocking the Blue Stars in the Semi's and edging them for that coveted Finalist spot. Their Semi's performance was " on ", and almost became the shocker of Championship week, imo.

  21. My 2013 award for most improved was the Cavaliers. Saw them in Lexington, KY, in June, and it was 10,000% better at Finals in August.

  23. I know time will tell and my 2 cents mean nothing, but if you take a look at the drum corps situation here in Florida, you'd realize that there are ZERO junior corps anywhere even remotely close to here and not one single show to speak of. Meanwhile, on the all-age side we had two field corps, a mini corps, and an alumni corps. There was also a very successful DCA show held this past season. To be honest, my money would be on growing the all-age activity here into a viable region. Realize that TBT and Sun Devils are only 100 miles apart and are both located on the west side of the state. Not for nothing, there is a lot of fertile ground here to support another corps or two. Miami, Jacksonville, Daytona, Orlando? If Thunder stayed and just one more all-age corps were to get started, there would be enough corps to have relatively local shows whenever they wanted IN FLORIDA! I understand that there are some aspects of the DCA experience that make it difficult for Florida members, but DCI Open Class is probably the WORST place to operate a drum corps in terms of finances, support from the circuit, etc. I don't get it, but then again, I don't have to. And I still wish them success.
