I was precious too and had to learn a new instrument in order to participate in Drum Corps. It was hard but it didn't kill me and it paid off. There's nothing to stop marching band enthusiasts from starting their own summer league. Don't wreck ours in the name of "inclusivity."
This isn't limited to marching arts either. Try showing video of Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Luis Tiant, Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench, the '70's Steelers, the 60's Packers, Jerry Rice, Earl Campbell... if it didn't happen in the last 5 years, they just don't believe it was as good as it was. This isn't new either... I was one of the few kids 40 years ago who understood how good "the good 'ole days" were in sports as well.
not sure i've ever met anybody who doesn't love that show. lots of other shows from 20+ years ago, too.
i was speaking generally, and admittedly, a little to broadly. i just think about the kids that I work with and they're a lot more likely to share a 6-12 placing performance from 2018 than from 1998, for example.
Two guys that marched Drum Corps many years ago, and had been away from the activity for decades, recently went to a local DCI Corps practice for the 1st time when they were on vacation in the area, and thought they'd swing by the practice room. They were apparently unaware of the changes in instrumentations of the Drum & Bugle Corps from their days. Anyway, its worth noting that we have on record the 2 old Drum Corps dinos somewhat puzzling reactions to what they saw and heard on their visit .🙂
Very informational but I’ve given up emailing Flo support because IF they respond their go to response is the user’s internet which contradicts what he said in the podcast. I’m sure I’m not alone because this summer was the worst for sound. Past experience led me to give up contacting them. I’m pretty web savvy and I’m 98% sure the issue isn’t my service
Actual answer - to get exactly that smooth and round sound you noticed. It's prefered by a lot of European orchestras - esp German, and for rep which calls for that sound. An article:
