  1. Spirit has placed as high as 4th and was a regular staple in the top 12 through most of the 80's beating Madison or placing in the same neighborhood for several years. They've had their own issues and I would hope the Scouts organization and the alumni would be glad they're doing well. Close competition is a good thing and can help give goals to each organization.
  2. Does anyone know if they'll have the closer on the field for tonight's show?
  3. Excited to see how Spirit scores tonight. I saw an earlier video, incomplete show and no uniforms, but I liked what was on the field.
  4. Good show. Best part, or at least most interesting part, is the all female ensemble near the end of the show. I suspect maybe the fact that they're all female (or at least looked that way to me) will also have something to do with the theme at some point?
  5. It doesn't matter weather a corps uses a "traditional" uniform or a "costume," there have been some of each that work and some that don't. Also sometimes guard uniforms/costumes look good with the theme and main corps, sometime they don't. Case by case basis.
  6. I liked this years show, at least much better than last year. Music is much better and I think Will is maybe settling in better. Like every other corps, now that the bones are on the field they can start to develop the show theme. They use the hoodies only between sections which Will explained was to be the "Cloak" travelers wear/wore. I think now they can develop the story for each "world." At least I hope they have something planned. In the past Phantom has done an excellent job of that, hope they will this year. I also liked that the battery and trombones played in the on field pit and some other staging. I don't see them using the helmets except for parades etc. as others have stated.
  7. Blue Stars, fitting will help a bit. I didn't mind the corps and guard in same uniform. I don't like the tool belts. They break up the uniform and make everyone look short and clunky and also destroy any sense of line. PR- ok Boston had the worst uniform of the night. The map references are pale and a small part of the uniform and won't be seen from the stands. I also don't like exposed arms. They don't work for me on any corps. No sleeves are cooler but without them when doing body work, there's no line, extension. Cavies- Good Crown- dark which fits the theme but dark unis and dark/dull flags makes everything fade away. Maybe in person it will look better. Bluecoats- very cool overall but I agree with whoever said they don't fit well.
  8. Agree. The desks seem like a waste. They're constantly moving them around with no real impact or value that I could tell.
  9. Madison Scouts are all "Boy Scouts" (I believe I read it's a special category they all join if not already a Scout). But the " Boy Scouts" are now just the "Scouts" and i believe no longer all male. Therefore I wonder if Madison retains the "Scout" affiliation if they'll have a choice, especially if or more likely when the issue comes up. There's a part of me that likes the all male traditions of Madison and Cavaliers. But there's a part of me that says it's time to move on and be coed. Very mixed feelings.
  10. Have tickets to see Dudamel conduct his Venezuelan Youth Orchestra at Wolf Trap in September!
  11. The Irish themes are a newer theme for them the last couple decades. I remember them back in the 70's and early 80's and they did a variety of shows that had nothing to do with being Irish. I think they need to lose the Irish already. Just MHO
  12. Saturday night in Allentown the Cadets singer that opens the show must have got the wrong pitch or something and she started 1/2 step low. She corrected as soon as the brass came in.
  13. Colts singing seems to be prerecorded. At least I never noticed a live singer on the field. Cadets have their choir of 8 who are singing live.
  14. If you take away the yard lines doesn't it become like early drum corps with one yard line on the 50.
  15. Originally, corps 13-25 were called "associate corps" and it was considered an honor to make that group (at a time when there were a LOT more corps). Then when they went to the quarters, semis, finals schedule it became 17. Now it's back up to 25.
  16. Weber Grill restaurant. Very nice. Everything is of course grilled!
  17. Enjoyed this show. I thought they would score higher. Very nice entry into World Class!
  18. The performance level is great and I understand their placement. I don't get anything from the show theme; personal preference.
  19. SCV, Bluecoats, Boston, Academy, and Spirit in that order.
  20. Loved this show in A-town. The fire at the end was a great dramatic touch. I'm not a fan of singing in drum corps but Boston's singer is definitely the best this year.
