  1. The original news about Troop's guard prompted me to watch Onyx 2023, which was my winterguard show in at least 15 years. Unreal design and performance to my ignorant eyes. I was really looking forward to how it would look with Troopers, and I felt like it was a good stylistic matchup with what the Troopers did in 2023. Did Lentz and his team provide any design, does anybody know? Or would whoever takes over demand to start from scratch?
  2. It was amazing seeing her perform. Great moment in music history. One of my favorite songwriters of all time. Still waiting for a corps to do Big Yellow Taxi.
  3. I was one of the biggest fans of their show last year on here. Just want to see them keep growing!
  4. beautifully designed and performed show. i only watch hi cam during the summer broadcasts and i found myself scratching my head over their scores at every regional and at finals. they march soooo well and have such a gorgeous brass sound. i want more!
  5. Got this in an email from DCI. You can read the interview in the link or watch the video that was just posted to youtube today (1/31). https://dci.org/news/behind-the-return-of-santa-clara-vanguard-to-the-2024-dci-tour?utm_source=sfmc&utm_medium=email
  6. People who fell in love with drum corps in the past 10-15 years fell just as hard for what they saw and heard as you did. Your tastes aren't universal nor are they superior. Another ghost to give up.
  7. That's the same thing as saying hopefully they don't make the semifinals, which would be a horrific outcome for a corps trying to compete again. Just the reality of what the A&E arms race has done to DCI for the past couple decades. Time to let go of that ghost. Actually, it was time about 15 years ago.
  8. lol, we're lucky to get anything besides uniform/costume pics and maybe music reps from some of these corps by mid June. Some of these staffs think their band designs are actually important in any way. Truly absurd. But hey, I'll take it to hear a Klesch or Thrower music special or to see whatever whacked out concept Bloo, Crown and others come up with.
  9. So, I saw there's a remake of Road House coming out and I got all nostalgic and looked up who wrote the music for the original one with Patrick Swayze. The composer is none other than the GOAT Michael Kamen. It's actually pretty darn good. Not quite on par with New Moon in Old Moon's Arms (Phantom 2010) or his stuff from Band of Brothers, Robin Hood, Mr. Holland's Opus, Die Hard, etc, but I still think this could be great for drum corps:
  10. There used to be a whole sub on this site for it. As OldSnareDrummer said, there's plenty of other social media for that now.
  11. For sure. I was agreeing with you. The first half of BD 2023 was the most I've gotten into any BD show in at least 5 years. But their design team and performers aren't just given championships. Any rational human understands that so I chalk Galen's comment to being pretty much pure intentional hyperbole.
  12. It's bitter to imply that a corps and it's designers don't earn anything?
  13. Oh no. Just saw this. Played Rocky Point in high school, but my faves of his I never got to play: Sonoran Desert Holiday and the Bach Passacaglia. He clearly just wrote string parts for the upper woodwinds which made those parts almost impossible to find anywhere to breathe, but his music is still gorgeous. I was listening to his stuff on my walkman while my classmates were listening to Kris Kross and Nirvana.
  14. So you want Christmas in late June is what you're saying?
  15. will feel very old school madison musically. i'm pretty excited that boerma's arranging this. exactly the direction i was hoping they'd go in.
  16. Bloo 23 is the show I find myself still humming and thinking about the most. Seems to be the case every year. Can't wait for real news about 24, so I guess maybe late June?
  17. but then we'd be breaking the rules making this thread ot.
  18. The most interesting post in this thread in a long time. Thx.
  19. They can, kinda. But Ben Franklin strenuously argued for the turkey to be our national bird rather than the eagle. He didn't care they don't fly much so I don't either. Happy turkey day everybody. Hope everybody has a great time with their families.
  20. Love it, but There Will be Blood wasn't a Coen bros movie. That was Paul Thomas Anderson. The Coen Bros came out with No Country for Old Men the same year.
  21. Crown and The Cadets both used mainly ostinatos from the Barber piece as inspiration for their takes by Bocook and Klesch. Both significantly changed chord progressions. Very similar to what Saucedo did when he combined McTee and Daugherty ostinatos from Soundings and Niagara Falls for tremendous effect in their 2000 shows. I actually hear a lot more of Barber in Crown's (2016) take on Medea compared to the Cadets', and that's fine. That Cadets 05 show is pretty much perfect in every way to my ears, so that's not a criticism.
  22. Because I don't want 3% of my money to go to gofundme. Same reason I don't ever give my business to gas stations/restaurants/etc that charge an extra 3% or whatever to use a credit card. I understand that those businesses don't care for what the CC companies charge them, so no hard feelings or anything, but it's a no-go for me since I never carry much cash. Like others have said, when/if the Cadets release info about how much they need to field a corps in 2025 if at all, I'll donate directly to them.
