  1. Let's wait until we see what kind of movement there is in the top corps.
  2. Did Regiment add anything new to the ending? I figure if the tempo of the opener was up, they had to add something.. yeah, the fan network is screwing me over too...
  3. Was that a general observation or did they pull something off?
  4. Yeah, at the Bham show, all the corps had gas fund jars. We went by every stand, and if we didn't get something, I dropped $5 in the jar.
  5. Of course, if that were to happen, Spartacus would have to win.
  6. 1980 Finals were at Legion Field in Birmingham; back then, Alabama played half of their home games there.Right at the end of the Bridgemen's show--they re-enacted the Civil War as their closer--a group of members appeared wearing Alabama jerseys and ran a quick play.
  7. If nothing else, think of what that persuccion section could do with the Prokofiev piano concertos...
  8. And after that warmup, they play their new show, consisting of Channel One Suite and Malaguena.
  9. Since the question is based on the results of head to head competition, it only makes sense to look at head to head performances. Same-judges different night is not going to yield the same results. I believe the point being made is that the OP feels that the spreads for visuals are exaggerated--which has the net result of making the scoring rubric even more heavily weighted towards visual--thus making it possible for a corp to win with a 4th place brassline, but impossible to win with 4th place visual.
  10. Didn't 93 Phantom put in their closer drill during finals week?
  11. After a performance for the ages, Phantom Regiment will attempt to cement their first solo title by having their drum major kill the BD drum major in the middle of the Devils performance. DCI judges will automatically assume the move to be the height of absurdity, and thus the Devils will score 100 for yet another title.
  12. Just got back from the show. Not only was this the first show for my daughter and son, it was also my first live show in <whisper>20 years</whisper>. Quick thoughts on Regiment: Percussion: Mother of God! Just incredible. The crowd was just eating up the procession onto the field; the audience was psyched before a single note was played. As good as the music was, I just wasn't feeling the closer. Something is missing there. I see whay people are concerned about the visual. The problem isn't the color guard unis--they're great. The problem is solid white unis--they don't provide enough contrast to make the complex drill pop. I'll try to be more coherent tomorrow.
  13. The show website does not have ticket prices. Anyone out there know what they are? thanks.
  14. OMG!! Next they'll be performing satanic rituals, summoning demons, and...oh wait, thay've already done that...
  15. Back when DCI played in Legion Field in Birmingham, the corps played to the smaller side of the stadium so that the sound wouldn't get trapped under the upper deck.
  16. Where would DCP be if there were no threads attacking Hoppy?
  17. Actually, a common sentence for someone who really ticked off the judge was to be hanged, cut down while still alive, then cut out the entrails--often with a pack of dogs handy, and then drawn and quartered.Miracle Max had very few customers after such a sentence was carried out.
  18. They've screwed up already: they're using an Underwood typewriter. Royal typewriters sound much better.
  19. The first year they had the black unis (88?), their opener (regardless of what the DCI site says) was "That Old Black Magic".
  20. Possible, I suppose. But BD had a truly stunning show that year, so unlikely.
  21. There was a pretty great contrabass solo in 27th Lancers 1980.
  22. So, did was PR admitting defeat when they handed out librettos for their first Spartacus show? When you're approaching anything new--be it drum corps or swimming--a little bit of help can be a very good thing.
  23. My main problem w/ 79 is that the jet engines weren't in tune with the brass...
  24. Spirit of Atlanta, 1980, "Georgia on My Mind." Game over.
