  1. Nope, those are players playing live into mics around the back. They are at each speaker prop around the field.
  2. Ok. That's a sample of the horn line playing and about 4-5 seconds. Is there another example?
  3. I don't believe they are using any synthetic horn sounds. Do you have an example? When I watched them rehearse, all sounds seemed live but sometimes played by soloists into the 7 microphones placed all around the field. I think they are just adding effects to the sound and also moving them to different speaker locations.
  4. They deserve what they get?? Making a lot of money is more important than one show.
  5. I agree. They are being out designed. It's not a money issue. If there is extra equipment, that's primarily coming through sponsorships and smart financial planning by turning equipment turn-over into a significant profit center. Madison was the reason I fell in love with drum corps. Watching the show this year is difficult. It's a show stuck well in the past and good luck with attracting extremely experienced members to this corps next year.
  6. I was at the Pittsburgh show. The Troopers drum major came off the field quickly well ahead of the other drum majors. it must not be a "tradition" that is done every time. Just when he feels the need. I did see him go extremely slow prior to this show holding up everyone else. It's a little ridiculous to me.
  7. Correct, RCC is a program of the Blue Devils now.
  8. If a vet is not prepared for auditions and does make enough effort to meet the requirements of the corps, then they should be cut. It's a tough decision but it wouldn't be fair to everyone else auditioning if exceptions were made. The corps should be making their best effort to evaluate objectively each year and giving everyone spending time and money the same chance. Vets obviously have a HUGE advantage because they know the system and expectations.
  9. I talked to a friend who's on the snare line this year. He said they all love them! I can't wait to see it live.
  10. They're using trampolines on the field. It should be interesting to see how they use them.
  11. Looks like he marched Reading and was Caption Head at Bushwackers a few years back. http://bushwackers.org/2012/01/09/new-brass-caption-head-walter-street/
  12. Yes, turning around the Bb horns and selling them as "Pre-Owned" has been a source of revenue for corps. They do not lose money, they make money. The manufacturers get more of their products into the field. True, there is the one time large capital investment up front, but it's better to put them into a resell-able product than to the G's which did not have the market to be resold. Not all corps turn around the full hornline each year obviously but it's one major part of the switch to Bb that people will continue to ignore. You couldn't sell the G's to scholastic or college programs. The switch to Bb horns has helped sustain the activity. The same holds true for the percussion equipment although the front ensemble is typically on a two year resale cycle. As a director of an indoor drumline, selling our discounted equipment every two years has been a substantial continual source of revenue. It also allows our kids to play on the best equipment.
  13. Correct. You will probably never see a whole line of them. The idea is for starter corps' that do not own marching tubas. They can borrow from a high school to get started and save a considerable amount of money.
  14. Maybe I missed it in this thread, but the Perc 2 judge was approved for 2014. It's back.
  15. I've seen more show video from the Cadets than any other corps so far this winter.
  16. New article http://mdjonline.com/pages/full_story/push?article-Parents+show+support+for+beleaguered+Lassiter+High+School+band+leader%20&id=24208671 Keep fighting Ginny!
  17. If any drum corps' are going to go down the OSU show design path for 2014, they can watch these helpful videos especially when trying to master technique such as the "Sloopy Step" (it's at 22:50 into this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSZPSCFCVOs
  18. I know some people don't care for it, but they are getting great attention. I could have cared less about college marching band or what OSU has done each week, but each week there show has gone viral and I am looking forward to see what they are doing next. I never thought I would say that. It's entertaining! I know this is different from OSU, but also some cool stuff. I saw this on Facebook posted by a few "non-band" people. I would love to see more lights used in DCI at a higher level although this has been done by WGI pretty extensively. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n15ysNWeedc fyi, this show was written by Michael Gaines
  19. Carol and Greg were on the Bluecoats staff guard staff last year. They're not new. Maybe the new guard caption head will help?
  20. Their Facebook Event for "Glassmen Development Meeting" setup by the volunteers was cancelled a week ago. Here was the note that was posted. We have been asked to cancel this meeting by the Glassmen Board of Trustees. Over the past year, many volunteers and alumni have come together to find ways to help bring the Glassmen back to the field. We have had many successful initiatives such as cookbook sales and the All Star Review. Many people poured their hearts, passion, time and pocketbooks into extending the life of the corps in hopes that eventually there would be light at the end of the tunnel. This meeting was set to find new revenue streams hearing ideas from the entire Glassmen family. Unfortunately we found little support among board leadership to continue this process. So, we have decided to cancel this meeting and unfortunately must wait for news from the board on the future of the Glassmen. Thank you for your support and efforts and we hope to be part of the process of bringing the Glassmen back.
  21. Why is Tim Newburn no longer the program coordinator at Blue Knights? Did he resign or was he let go? I loved the show last year. Does that mean the guard staff is changing too?
