  1. You're missing my point. To make it more obvious, I find it interesting how people freely shoot their mouths off before learning all that they can about an individual subject. People are basing their entire opinions on one singular photo. I never said anything was wrong with anyone changing their opinion. I just can't stand when people make quick hip-shot judgments. If, after researching everything to the best of one's ability, the opinion remains the same, then so be it. You're entitled to that much, as am I. You made my point with your next-to-last sentence.
  2. Interesting how once someone sees the "whole picture(s)", they change their tune. I'm sure you're a LOAD of fun around election time.
  3. Then wait until you hear the music. That'll have some serious swagger for ya. You won't care what they're wearing after that. Just saw the corps at the Madison show and as for the unis, they look great on the field. Relampago is supposed to be a superhero of Latin folklore and the guard looks like superheros. The unis fit the show. Just like '96 BD's zoot-suits, '06 Cavies robots, '08 Regiment slaves, and so on. As for the electric blue and neon yellow, IT MAKES THE GUARD STAND OUT! If they went with a red instead of blue (as proposed earlier), I have the feeling that people would be complaining that the guard would blend in too much when they don't have equipment in hand. Maybe I'm just missing it, but where was there a guard member that had "rolls" in that photo or any others. Last night, I saw them in person and it didn't look like there were any problems with unis being "bulging" (no pun intended). Cumberbunds are not a Madison thing. They belong with the Cadets and that's where they should stay, unless a new corps wishes to follow suit.
  4. I was thinking of this when I heard Blue Devils. Something along the lines of, "Our higher is higher than your higher."
  5. Personally, I loved the unis from this year. That drawing would also be phenomenal to see on the field. And as for the comment about the uniform looking too much like the Boy Scouts, I don't know what your local Scout troop wears but that looks nothing the Madison uniform. That and all of the members of the Madison Scouts actually are Venturer Scouts in the Boy Scouts. So either way...your comment doesn't hold much water.
  6. This past year at Open Class Finals (when Madison was taking the field), I was in the press box for the awards portion. When the Spirit of Disney award was given out, a know-it-all guy was telling the lady he was sitting with that "The first time that this award was given out in Div. 1, the Madison Scouts won it. Their show was the Pirates of the Carribean so you know it was fixed." Too bad the Scouts show involving pirates was Pirates of Lake Mendota.
  7. Seems a little harsh guy. He's just stating the fact that the Scouts have scored a point higher than Colts as of the most recent show. Just take it easy and don't underestimate the power of the Scouts.
  8. Good lord Texas. Every other score is up. Let's go!!!
  9. This is a possibility. The only thing I know about the RCA dome is that there are seats and other items for sale and auction on the (Indianapolis) Colts website.
  10. The new Scouts uniform shows that there are no "identity issues" at hand in Madison. Just be patient and then in awe.
  11. I think that the only sensible alternative to Memorial Stadium would be to take Finals an hour in the opposite direction up to Purdue University. That is probably the second largest college football venue in the state of Indiana. Please God don't let them move it indoors at the RCA Dome.
  12. First of all, wouldn't someone have to be a big enough arse to attempt this in the first place? This is just something that an individual would do out of spite and in no way would serve the population as a whole any good. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia gained Title VIIII exemption AFTER they had female members of the Fraternity. Frankly, the only people who would be ballsy enough to attempt something of this nature are heartless and lonely. And that's probably their own fault. Just leave the guys alone. If you want an all-female corps (which I believe there have been in the past), go for it. You won't be hearing any males complaining that they aren't allowed to join the corps. It's the way things are, GROW UP AND DEAL WITH IT.
  13. This past summer I personally wore a baseball cap, sunglasses, and a bandanna (hanging out from under the hat) the entire summer. This was so that I wouldn't have to wear as much sunscreen on my face/neck. See...I am what is referred to as a "ginger kid" for all of you South Park fans out there. I have extremely sensitive skin and basically probably shouldn't be in the sun more than 3 hours a day. For my arms I wore Under Armour and Adidas ClimaCool long-sleeved t-shirts. They were amazing! The only time that I felt I was overheating was in Phoenix, when everyone was having the same issues. The sunglass style that I wore were Oakley Fives. They are the wrap-around style. So between the wrap-around sunglasses and the bandanna hanging out from under my hat, I should have caused a 20 person pile-up with my mellophone. In fact, there is a photo on my corps website of the corps in basics block and I am blatantly obvious. So I believe what I'm trying to say is that sunglasses do not hinder your vision or your ability to march a Div. I show.
  14. Doing throwback music though is a sweet idea. I'm all about that.
  15. Let's look at this from the corps directors perspective. To pull off the idea that you are presenting would be an absolute nightmare. For one, if a corps were to have a hornline of 72 (which many do), that means that a corps would have to transport, maintain, and store a minimum of 144 instruments just for the Horn Line. That is also assuming the corps doesn't increase the size of the hornline with the number jump to 150 total members. Then you propose the "throwback" percussion. Do you wish to go as far as marching timpani? Are you asking for different snares and basses? In short, it just cannot and thusly, will not happen. Corps would have to have twice as many semis as they do now to help burden the load. And with the way gas prices are going, a director would either have to be a multi-millionaire that doesn't mind "donating" a large chunk of change or they would have to know how to aquire those funds through other means. Because the primary job of a Corps Director is finding the money needed to make the season possible. Sorry to kill the dream of G's in the closer but that's reality.
  16. It's interesting to see all of the ideas on here....some good...some not so good. I'll try to remember as many as possible. 1.) Sorry ladies...it ain't gonna happen. 2.) I believe I remember someone calling out the corps for being afraid of tradition. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! DID YOU EVEN WATCH THIS YEAR'S SHOW?! If you did...I must assume that you completely missed the COMPANY FRONT coming on to the field. Or maybe the 5 FLEUR DE LIS didn't jump out enough for you. Could it possibly be that you missed out on the HIGH MARK TIME after the hit in the closer. Finally, maybe you missed out on the MELLOPHONE LICK AT THE VERY END OF THE SHOW that was a throwback to the "good 'ole days". If you were at one of the shows that the Scouts happened to play the encore, did you not stick around or did you really miss out on the LAST NOTE OF ICE CASTLES? I hear it was held for something like a minute or a minute and a half in St. Peters, Missouri. The drum major even pulled his cell phone out and made a call (holding the phone up to the audience and the horn line before crescendoing again and finally cutting them off. Come on man...there is plenty of tradition in that corps. Maybe if you would've went out by their trailers after their performance (instead of watching corps 9-14) and talked to some of the members or gone to one of their rehearsals to observe what was going on instead of reading the rumor-mills....then maybe....just maybe you could see some tradition in that corps. Oh and I must appologize if you do happen to be blind and couldn't actually watch the show...but I guess that would be unneccessary at this point seeing as you couldn't be reading this right now. So I'll stick with my original statements. 3.) THE RIGHT STAFF! The instrumental staff were basically all new to the world of teaching in a drum corps setting and I dare to say that the greater percentage would say that the horn line (musically) was the strongest part of the show. The visual staff just needs time (and retention) so that their new style of teaching can be set and then there will not be variation in technique. 4.) As for not saying the drill writer's name...I'm not afraid to do it. His name is ALAN JOANIS and he wrote a terrible visual book. Kevin Nix was brought in to fix it all and I must say that it was much, much better. 5.) Did someone say play to the judges more than the crowd and Scouts in the same sentence? Wow...talk to the kids in the corps and talk to the staff...see who they'd rather please. 9 people in green shirts and khakis or the 40,000 screaming fans who may as well be throwing their own babies on to the field? I sure as hell know what I would pick. That is all that I can remember at this point. Please feel free to write back with any and all comments. Thank you.
  17. I think your referring to "Brenda and Eddie" in the closer.
  18. The Phantom being on the backside of the field when Regiment performs at finals and leaving when they are finished.
  19. CSO playing Holzt's The Planets. Especially the Bass Trombone player in Uranus, The Magician.
  20. I heard that the Bluecoats are staying in South Central LA so that the kids get the real meaning of the show.
