THIS! I think about this a lot, actually. In my mind Sunday's would be great missionary opportunities to perform for the community. I don't know if "letter of the law" LDS parents would want their kids half naked during rehearsal. I'm not sure it would work but the possibility is definitely there.

I'm totally excited for the ESarn kids. I'd love to hear the back story on how the trip was funded because there aren't a lot of kids in Thailand who could afford such a trip. I'm guessing Yamaha had a hand in it. Way to represent Thailand, ESarn. What a great way to showcase Asian drumlines.

Since we're gushing over Crown, I'll join. I've never been head over heels for Crown. However, I love this show/corps so much. I've never been a fan of vocals in drum corps but in this show it just works for me. The narration in the ballad is so incredibly powerful. I'd like to write the ballad narrator a "thank you" note because he freaking nails it and I'm completely moved. Here are my fears/concerns. A) Indoor venues have a way of killing emotion from drum corps, IMO. I hope this show translates well indoors or I'll be living off of mid season recordings of this show until I die. B) I don't like Crown's history with endings. They've had some classic drum corps endings that have been changed to cheesy "try too hard" moments (my opinion). I would have no objections to the current ending being 'it', but I doubt this will happen. Please please please don't kill the show with a lame ending.

It would do them a lot of good to communicate to customers (us) what the quality standards are (if any) and share the challenges post show. I realize it's a moving target moving from venue to venue but the least they could do is give insight. It doesn't have to be much. Just let us know you're working on it and you value giving us a quality product. It's easy to be patient when you have a little knowledge of what's going on.

I'm curious, how did the staff communicate to you after the show. Were they ###### as hell or did they try to keep your morale up?

At DATR in '99 the Cadets had a huge pile up as a growing square wound around. This was right at the beginning of the show. One member went down then it was the domino effect that was pretty dramatic, if my memory serves me well. They recovered but I remember the crowd gasping. I'd never seen anything like it.

I'd usually agree but this show is so bad ssa that I don't really care what the story line is. I'm completely engaged from start to finish and the horn line makes me feel like it's 1995 again. Watching them live was amazing. It was like I had been fed for the first time in years. My soul starved to hear and see amazing drum corps and it was satisfied. For the record, I dig the drum book too. If you're wondering if you should or shouldn't go to a show where Crown is performing you need to go or you'll regret it forever. It really is that good.

Jason Sutter marched with Sky Ryders in the early nineties, I think. He's a product of UNT and really just an awesome percussionist. I'm willing to say "JJ's right." However, the subjectivity of it all is frustrating to me as a fan and I wish they (the percussion judges) would get on the same page.

This caught my eye too. I predict that SCVs percussion score swings way up over the next two nights. This is my biggest beef with DCI as a competitive/judged activity. Maybe JJ is right, and I'm fine with that. Regardless, either the other percussion judges need to get on the same page as JJ or vica versa. JJ is obviously seeing things differently.

SCV had a huge jump in brass last night. Is this inconsistent judging or could they really improve by half a point in a few days? I hope they are getting that much better, but something seems fishy to me.

Whoa... thanks for the link. So tell me why I should buy some old school remasters. For example, how would the Star '91 audio from their "greatest hits" disk differ from the masters offered on this page? Thanks a bunch, Alex McKinley

I didn't hear a lick of synth. The sound could have been fuller with some low end goo. This is not modern drumcorps. You old schoolers need to stop dwelling in the 70s, 80s, 90s. Live in the NOW, man. (End Sarcasm Here)

I remember being at a BK camp(s) in the winter of 92/93 and there was a great vibe and a feeling of momentum. There was one "lower level" staff member who I remember saying "Ralph will bring us a championship in the next 3 years." This person was a recent age out. Obviously those expectations never came to pass. It really is a shame because they took a huge leap forward in '94 only to lose the mojo for a few years. Seems like the pendulum continues to swing back and forth.

I'd like to add that I think it is unprofessional for DCI to not communicate problems with fans who have paid for VODs. I can be patient if issues are communicated to me. Otherwise, I paid my cash with the promise that a product would be given to me. I expect to receive what I pay for and DATR was on the list. I emailed Fan Network support and they said VODs are out 2-3 days after the event. Here we are almost a week after the event and still nothing. No VODs. No apology. Only silence. With all that said, I am grateful for the Fan Network. All I ask is an email notifying me of the delay so I'm not waiting around for VODs. Sorry for piggy backing on this thread. It seemed to tie in with what you're saying.

I emailed Fan Network support on Monday. They responded yesterday saying VODs usually take 2-3 days to get up and that DATR VODs had not been posted yet. I'm similarly bummed.
