I hate the tarps. . . I was in the 25th row in Atlanta and not only could I not see what was visually depicted on the tarps (thereby making them useless for furthering the theme of the show), but they obscured the corps members who were passing over them. They were like a visual black hole (albeit light colored) that made the kids invisible. Adding the fact that they're a safety hazard seals the deal for me. #NoTarpsinDCI :)

They're doing it though! High notes galore! (My high school band director stole all these arrangements and we played them in the late 70s / early 80s..) I love it!

There seem to be a lot of "cheerleader stunts" this year. Lots of guard members being lifted up high and thrown off.

Watching at the theater last week, I found myself focusing on the narrator because of all of his entrances and exits. Stage Right, Stage Left, Middle. . .. Up, Down, Up, Down. . . . .And then there were his arm movements. . . . And the book? Why? . . . . I found it very distracting. I would much rather watch the corps, but I found myself watching him way too much. To me, it did NOT seem like 90% of the time he wasn't speaking (as someone said earlier). He seemed TO ME to be the focus of the show. Blame me for not being able to NOT look at him, but that's the way it was.

It's easy for me to remember being a high school student at DCI shows. It was THRILLING! I didn't necessarily care if it was a 'top corps' or not - it was all WAY better than most of the small town bands I had seen and competed against. DCI was thrilling, especially for a kid who loved music and could imagine the amount of work that must have gone into each show. Give them a break for cheering. They don't see this every day. They probably see one show every year. They're not paying for Fan Network. They're not on DCP. And finals aren't televised anymore. So they aren't jaded or highly critical. They're just band kids who are enjoying the hard work and thrill brought to them by kids they admire. Let them cheer!

I love Phantom and I hate to say it, but those guard uniforms don't do anything positive for those poor girls.

I am extremely disappointed tonight. The transmission started going wonky about halfway through the Scouts. It then skipped immediately to several minutes into Phantom's program ( I'm guessing the time because they weren't yet in the black uniforms). Then it skipped to the end of Phantom's show. We never saw Boston, and the whole thing was over by 8:00. Ridiculous! I've sent a complaint to Fathom Events. The theater says they just showed what they got. This was not a live event, so I don't understand why there were problems. Very disappointed.

I don't go 2 minutes without it freezing. I've got guests coming to watch with me on the big screen TV. . . It could be a LONG night. :-(

I am most definitely not a troll. I'm just a drum corps fan who found this forum and try to use it to learn more about this activity that I love. The fact that some people have responded by questioning the OP (me) rather than discussing the topic should not have surprised me. 1. I have a life - a very fulfilling one. 2. As I stated, I have participated in several other forums that are just as, if not more, competitive and passionate than drum corps (SEC Football, anyone?). 3. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive and expect people to respect other people's opinions. I've been reading (and occasionally) posting to DCP for several years now. This is not the first "forum" of this type that I have participated in over the years, on a number of topics. I have NEVER seen such consistent MEANNESS in any forum other than DCP. There seems to be a huge number of nasty posts, which range from showing a lack of respect to outright cruelty to a previous poster. Sometime I gasp out loud when I read some of these mean comments. I just can't believe that people are so nasty, much less that they are willing to put it into writing in a medium where it will never completely disappear. What is it about this forum that brings out such lack of common courtesy? such downright rudeness? such nastiness? Don't tell me it's because it's a competitive activity and that people have a lot of passion for it. Other activities are just as competitive, and inspire just as much passion as drum corps, and the fans don't attack each other. Just because I'm a (Fill in the Blank) fan doesn't mean it's okay for me to totally slam someone else just because they like (Not "Fill in the Blank"). I'm passionate about my college team but I don't consider our rival's fans EVIL, and I don't say nasty things about them just because they happen to like a different university than I do. I just don't get it. . . I just wish we could all respect each other, and feel free to discuss our opinions without the fear of being personally attacked. (I fully expect people will respond with comments that say I am wasting DCP bandwidth with this topic, that I'm an idiot, that I'm naïve, that I obviously haven't ever been on another forum, etc. I think that's sad. . . )

Too bad Santa Clara had no horns tonight, from what I could hear. Although I looked forward to this with GREAT anticipation, I give up. Guess I'll watch The Bachelorette . . .

I'm REALLY enjoying all the close ups of the drum sticks hitting the drums. That's exactly why I paid for Fan Network. (just in case it's not obvious, this was SARCASM.)
