  1. Tom Blair could have just referred to footage from the last 10 years, the only difference was no white poles. Repeat music, repeat body movement, repeat staging, repeat long hair #metoo guard section. etc...
  2. Minnesota, Louisville, USC, Auburn, Clemson, SMU, et al, all in today's day and age, SO, if you … suspect or know of an individual or a business that is not complying with the tax laws on issues such as: False Exemptions or Deductions Kickbacks False/Altered Document Failure to Pay Tax Unreported Income Organized Crime Failure to Withhold Form 3949-A
  3. 1099'S have nothing to do with unreported income, e.g., kickbacks, bribes, trips, use of vacation homes, or other enrichment, that would be considered income.
  4. Just a thought, as a whole crop of judges have become eligible to consult again, what would the IRS find if there was an audit or someone reported a judge for suspicion of unreported income? Boosters have done it/still do it in college football, have booster's in DCI done the same?
  5. The Judging panel makes a big difference, Caleb Rothe single handily gave BD the championship in 2015.
  6. As I have been at every DCI Dallas - Lake Highlands show since 2001, you are referring to 2012. The high was 107 with a heat index of 131, but there were for more than "a few diehards in the stands." If want actual numbers, the Lake Highland Area Band Club likely have those as they have been hosting this show well over 30 years.
  7. Amen..after all DCI's moniker is "Marching's Major League" marching should be a given, but alas
  8. I just broke the law and watched the latest YouTube of Wicked Games - Wicked Fun and Wicked Good!
  9. There is always "a lot more"...cash makes "a lot more" easier to find. But, not new in DCI or anywhere. Cash is the international key to access. Cadets put up more to get Zingali from the 27th Lancers, then Star offered more to get him from the Cadets. It's no different today. This is just one example - there could be an entire topic page on this alone.
  10. In reference to your Blue Devils post, you forgot to add... Park and Bark and no drill to speak of.

  11. I would look for a YT prior to San Antoino to compare. The Dallas or Denton should do it. You could say, I was mistified during finals week.
  12. I am aware that corps make changes, I've been in and around this activity for 40 years. Most corps change over the season, sometimes those changes are not for the better. 2011 Blue Devils case in point, the changes took the heart out of the show. Changes are not a panacea which equal a better show.
  13. Not all that bold. Everyone forgets 1988 to 1993 as well as 1998 to 2006. Tides turn. Granted only finishing 8 times out of the top 3 since 1974 might indicate a bold prediction.
  14. Correct - Phantom and the Cadets still must be on video lock-down!
  15. Comment on scatter drill not a comment on any show this year...it's not drill, it's poor design. Other, than the Cadets 1987 where it was new, dramatic and a revelation, the use of scatter drill has been annoying. Worst case for me, or more accurately worst cases were the Cadets and Blue Devils 1996 - another tie from 1996! If memory serves me, the Cadets the Blue Devils had a combined 17 scatter sections. The judges poured salt on my pet peeve by scoring them 1-2 in both Quarter's and Semi's and 1-3 in Final's for Visual Ensemble. (FYI - yes, this drum corps nut remembers slights and irritations forever.)
  16. I'll bite - Blue Devils. The first 6 minutes of the show do not grab me. Visual trips down memory lane did not go well for their Bay area rivals in 1992 either. The color guard rifle spins and the sideline company front certainly give a base to "morph" from but the amount of time devoted to it, imo, is excessive. The butterfly flag spins is also very historic - they've been used numerous times by BD color guard. They may still win high brass, but a fourth place finish is not unheard of for the Blue Devils - its just unheard of in twelve years, 2005 and twelve years before that in 1993.
  17. Just watched the video from last night...HOLY CRAP is right. Stunning
  18. Terrific show - such a vast improvement. Congratulations to the organization, staff, alumni and most of all to the current membership. Wear the delta proud.
