  1. This seems to be the case for minors. I was digging around and this is what I found for minors who sign an NDA or other contract. Taken from a legal website. It's a bit general and I am sure there are more specific notes on this.
  2. This will certainly be one of the more interesting developments of the summer. I have a hard time believing SCV's percussion section will not score well. Brass too. But...we will have to see how show design, guard, drill, and overall execution develop over the summer.
  3. Ok, change of opinion...I think the Madison Scouts are going to take it all this year. That's right! My inner 80s/90s enthusiasm is showing today. Score prediction...100! 🙂 Looking forward to seeing all the corps...and yes I do love me some Madison Scouts.
  4. Yes, totally agree. You misread that post by me. Saying a corps has a strong brand name only indicates that they can likely recruit well and get quality staff -- in large part because of the historic shows and placements from years past. I would never say a corps should win because of their brand and their history. All I was saying is that SCV obviously has a storied history. They are one of the biggest brands in the activity. We all know that helps in getting recruits, staff, etc.
  5. Blue Cathedral by Jennifer Higdon. This might be a neat work in more of a contemporary classical nature for BD to tackle. Would not be the entire show (and the video is just a short clip of the work) but it could be the genesis of the show idea. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=489988111876318
  6. Ok, great to hear. As you could see I phrased that as a question because I don't know either. But I seem to remember one of the judges remarks about any reference to the old organization.
  7. There are some semi-classical/jazz/new age fused composers out there who have written some remarkable works that I do think Blue Devils need to take a look at.
  8. I think Bluecoats are going to have an absolute killer-fun show. As with many of the recent years I expect them to contend or be close. I am excited for Blue Devils as always. Obviously I expect them to be amazing and to contend as they always do, and seeing that BD polish live, in person is a sight to behold. I also hope the show is as fun as last season or even more so. Looking forward to hearing the music Carolina will be playing, and same with Boston. I absolutely LOVED Boston's music last summer. Same with Carolina. From just a music perspective those may have been my two favorite music books. Probably the biggest question that will be on the minds of many fans is will SCV be closer to the top 4 (maybe in the top 4) or are they closer to the 5-8 crowd? I have to believe camps have gone well. The corps, despite the financial issues (etc.), is still one of the biggest brands in DCI. If the show is designed and developed well then I have to believe they can compete at a high level. Or will the likes of Mandarins, Phantom, Cavaliers be too much for a corps that had to take a year off? I loved the Mandarins show last year and look forward to this summer. I also have a feeling the Cavaliers are going to be HOT this summer. Maybe a dark-horse for top 5. I always love me some Phantom Regiment. Just like last year and the year before I think the 5-9, even 5-10 matchups are going to be incredible. And with Troopers recruiting popularity over the recent years and their surge in ranking and quality (not to mention Colts, PC and others) I think it's from 5th to 15th that we are in for a treat this summer. The only real predictions I can make now is that Blue Devils will contend. I think Bluecoats will be in the mix, as will Carolina and Boston. But I am curious to get a read on SCV. Good luck to all the corps as we head toward the spring training in May.
  9. I agree. Also someone may have also brought this up but the name of this organization, with its obvious reference to old Garfield Cadets/Cadets, may make them liable for current or future law suits, Yes? I get the idea...but it might be too early for this.
  10. Very nice podcast to all involved. Well done, insightful, and respectful. I enjoyed listening to that. Thanks!
  11. I think the current oldest WC drum corps is Madison Scouts (1938). Not sure if there were any inactive years for Madison but in terms of the year they were founded they would be the oldest now.
  12. The Cadets in 1990 were super clean. Very mature show. Subtle, musical, artistic, and the sheer definition of professional playing and marching. That was a tough competitive year. I believe 6 corps all won regionals that season. Top 7 or 8 shows were all fantastic. Cavaliers and Star of Indiana were nothing short of amazing and championship caliber. Not to mention Blue Devils fabulous Tommy show. Phantom and SCV were also outstanding. It took until about a week and a half before finals that it looked like The Cadets might be the lead dog heading into Allentown and then Finals. Great season and one that I will always remember, and on top of it all was that brilliant Cadets show.
  13. Good point. You'd probably have to allow OC to be 14-21 Let WC be 18-22 (23). If you're 17 but will be 18 before May 1 then you can march, and if you turn 23 anytime after May 1 you can still march I'm not sure any of this stops the issues with predators, idiots, or even with bullying, hazing and many other issues. What it could do is really help OC corps in growth and popularity. And though the age limit for OC could be 21 I think most of the kids would be in the range of 15-17. It takes a great amount of oversight and knowledge to work with groups where the age range can be from 14-21.
  14. I don't think it will happen, but if it did I would not cry. Part of me thinks that might be good. I've not been a fan of the "Association" model for governance (directors of the corps run the show). I think we need something new with a real vision for the future.
